Shoutout to Bobby Benoit & Dave Manseau and the set-up crew!

We wanted to take a moment to give a huge thank you to Bobby Benoit, who went above and beyond to help make this weekend’s Deerfield BBQ such a success.

Bobby handled most of the food prep, hauled his grill out to the river, and even baked cupcakes for everyone. He also made sure Bernie was able to make the trip and spend the day with us.

A big thank you as well to Dave Manseau, who stepped up and helped Bobby with the food prep and everything that goes into pulling off an event like this.

We’re fortunate to have so many great people in this club, and events like this don’t happen without members willing to put in the work behind the scenes. The Deerfield outing wouldn’t have been the same without their efforts.

Thank you- Bobby, Dave and set-up crew, for helping make it a memorable day for everyone!!

Deerfield Outing…

The forecast had us wondering if the annual BBQ would be another washout this year, but Mother Nature came through and delivered a perfect day on the river.

We had a great turnout. It was awesome to just kick back, catch up, and eat some great food by the river.

Thanks to everyone who made the drive, brought food, and helped out. Good water, good food, and great company!

Tight lines!!! Drop your pictures in the comments.

I just wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the wonderful things our club is up to!

A few of our members recently volunteered for Casting for Recovery, and it was hands down one of the most fun and rewarding experiences. From the morning laughs and breakfast searches to gearing up and getting those rods ready, the energy was incredible.

There is nothing quite like sharing the water, guiding, and witnessing the healing power of fly fishing firsthand. We went there to give back, but we left with our hearts completely full. So proud of our crew!

And just like that, our Young Anglers Academy has officially wrapped up!

Mother Nature decided to give us a classic New England send-off for our final day. We had grand plans to get the kids out on the water, but the wind and rain had other ideas — and honestly, the wind and rain won. While the relentless weather meant we couldn’t actually wet our lines, these amazing kids didn’t let a full-on monsoon ruin their graduation day. We made the best of it indoors, fired up the BBQ anyway (because no amount of sideways rain is stopping that grill), and celebrated a phenomenal five weeks together.

Finally, this academy simply wouldn’t exist without the incredible community behind it. A heartfelt thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers who shared their time and expertise, and to the generous donors who provided the gear and resources to get these kids started on their fly fishing journeys. You are truly helping to build the next generation of the sport — one soggy graduation day at a time!

Rods secured… Next stop: the water!!!

Last Saturday was a big day for our Young Angler’s crew! Not only did everyone take home their own brand-new Orvis Encounter setup, but we also took our first steps outside to practice casting. Moving from tight thread wraps to tight loops is a huge step, and these kids absolutely crushed it.

The future of fly fishing is looking incredibly bright. Check out the smiles on these faces!!!

The "Final Tying Class" is officially in the books!

Take a look at these faces—and more importantly, check out those fly boxes! Our NEFT Young Anglers Academy students spent their fourth and final tying session filling up the last of their boxes. They’ve spent the last month practicing everything from the classic Mickey Finn and Wooly Bu**er to the Squirmy Worm, Mop Fly, San Juan Worm, and the technical Perdigon.

Next Stop: The Great Outdoors!
Now that they’ve built their "arsenal," it’s time to put it to work. Next week, the vises stay home and the rods come out! We’ll be handing over their very own rods and equipment, then heading out to learn the art of the loop with some casting practice.

A Little Bragging Moment...
We have to gush for a second: this group has been absolute rockstars. Seeing their focus at the vise—navigating tiny hooks, slippery materials, and the occasional thread snap—has been a joy to watch. Their patience, willingness to learn, and creativity is exactly why we do this.

These kids aren't just learning a hobby; they’re becoming the next generation of stewards for our waters. We couldn't be prouder!

To Our Incredible Mentors
This program wouldn't be possible without our amazing volunteers and teachers. Thank you for sharing your Saturday mornings, your expert tips, and your endless patience. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated crew!!

Our own Bill Doyle gave a great presentation on Tenkara Rod fishing Central MA TU last night. We all learned history of different Tenkara rods types, casting techniques and landing a fish without "stripping the line" and so much more. If you ever wanted to try fishing with a Tenkara rod he is the guy to talk too! Thank you, Bill!
