If wealth is measured in the passion, generosity and tenacity of people who are advocating hard for older adults in North Carolina, we are a very rich state! NCADSA takes every opportunity to express gratitude for the work on behalf of every person and family who benefits from adult day services in North Carolina. Teresa Troup expresses gratitude for their support to Rep. White and Bill Lamb, Chair of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging outside the Executive Mansion.

It was an honor to be invited to visit the Executive Mansion today to witness Governor Josh Stein signing of the Governor's Proclamation for Older Americans Month in North Carolina. Many people who attend adult day centers are over age 60, but adult day centers in NC can legally serve adults age 18+.

Last month, the U.S. Census Bureau released its 2025 county population estimates. The annual estimates show the population as of July 1 of the year and it also tells us how the population has changed from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025. In North Carolina, the total state population increased by 145,907 people, an increase of 1.3% from 2024 to 2025. How did your county change?

Mary Bethel, President of the NC Coalition on Aging, addressed attendees virtually at the 2026 Adult Day Services Conference hosted by the NC Division of Aging this week. Her message addressed five major impactful events from 2025, a currently strained healthcare workforce and the exponentially increasing aging sector in North Carolina. While there are many challenges, Mary offered hope and ways to change the future of adult day services in North Carolina:

*Families and participants must tell their stories of how adult day services impact their lives and communities.
*Invite elected officials to see and experience the center.
*As election season approaches, host a public forum inviting legislative candidates of all parties.
*Encourage families who have benefitted from the services to write letters to the Editor in local newspapers.
*Tell the stories of impact at local civic groups.
*Form alliances. (We interpreted that to include joining the NC Adult Day Services Association!)
*Showcase the myriad of services offered in the center and the impact on social media.
*Identify champions who will support legislation that supports adult day center participants and their carepartners remaining together in the community.
