This is a great safety guide for children swimming in lakes and swimming pools. The color of the bathing suit can make it easier or more difficult to see children while they are swimming. This is a good reminder to always have adult supervision when children are swimming. (Thanks to Praire Lakes Healthcare System.)

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather ADVISORY for much of central NC, including Granville County, in effect from 9:00pm this evening to 9:00am Saturday morning. An average of 1”-2” of snow is possible. Today will be dry with precipitation beginning as light rain this evening. The rain will mix and change to snow and continue overnight through Saturday morning. Saturday will bring very cold temperatures with wind chill values in the teens during the daytime Saturday and some single digits Saturday night. Limit time outdoors, dress in layers covering exposed skin. Bring pets indoors or make sure they have warm shelter and unfrozen water.

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective at 5 p.m. today until further notice.

“It is fall wildfire season in North Carolina, and we are seeing wildfire activity increase due to dry conditions,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “With these ongoing conditions, a statewide burn ban is necessary to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading quickly. Our top priority is always to protect lives, property and forestland across the state.”
