Berry College in Rome, GA is one of 12 Fellowship Schools in the Sullivan partner network.

Each year the school chooses 2-4 students to be in our three-year Sullivan Fellowship program. Fellows have two in-person cohort connection weekends at our Sullivan Fellows Summit in Asheville, NC. In between, they work together to create projects back on their campus and work toward their end-of year modules.

We are so fortunate to have Berry College create this space and opportunity for their students. Hear from Emily Cook, a current second year Berry Fellow, about her experience so far.

Want to join the Fellowship? Reach out to learn about ways we can work with your campus to create this chance for future changemakers.

đź—˝ Sullivan Alumni Gathering | June 6 | NEW YORK CITY

This Saturday, Sullivan alumni and friends are invited to gather during Mississippi in the Park, hosted by the New York Mississippi Society. The event will be held at Pier 64 at Hudson River Park from 12-4 PM.

Did you know The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award was created by The New York Southern Society, led by former president Grover Cleveland? As we honor our longstanding ties to New York City, we're excited to see our alumni community continue building connections and carrying forward the Sullivan legacy in the Big Apple.

We're proud to support the weekend with a historic Oxford getaway and hope this gathering becomes a beloved summer tradition for Sullivan NYC alumni for years to come.

The Sullivan Fellows applications open THIS SUMMER! Make sure you check with your campus to see if you're eligible to apply to be a Sullivan Fellow.

Want to see students from your campus in the Sullivan Fellowship? Consider Funding a Fellow this year!

Sullivan currently funds 12 schools to participate in the Sullivan Fellowship. Each year, we have more students from non-fellowship schools who want to participate, but financial support is limited on their campus. We want to ensure that any student who hopes to further their experience in changemaking and leadership, will have the opportunity to do so within the Sullivan network.

The Sullivan Fellowship is the next step for an Ignite Retreat student in the Sullivan Pathway. While we have 120+ Ignite Students coming from across 20 partner schools each retreat, many of them are not able to continue the Fellows program due to lack of financial program support.

Please consider funding a Fellow this fall so we can ensure more students the chance to engage in this work.

Meet our 2026 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Recipients from Rhodes College

On May 16, 2026, graduating seniors, Jasmine Jeffries and Abigail Figueroa, were presented with the student Algernon Sydney Sullivan awards at their commencement, while Dr. David McCarthy was presented with the community medallion.

Jasmine, a Memphian and Clarence Day Scholar, immersed herself in organizations across the campus and city, including Memphis' inaugural "Like You Children's Film Festival" program coordinator. An art history major and studio art and educational studies double minor, Jasmine's commitment to the arts includes internships with Germantown Community Theatre and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.

Abigail, a psycholgy major from Los Angeles, CA, was recognized for her involvement with Room in the Inn-an initiative she devoted countless hours supporting homelessness, ensuring they felt respected and valued. She also expanded the organization's reach by translating documents and materials for Spanish-speaking families. She is a Bonner Scholar and seved as a member of the Bonner Leadership Team and Bonner Center Intern.

Dr. McCarthy, professor of art and art history, was awarded the community Algernon Sydney Sullivan award upon his retirement for his selfless leadership which has helped shape generations of students and helped define character of Rhodes itself. An internationally respected scholar, McCarthy has examined how artists illuminate the political, cultural, and moral tensions of their time.

Congratulations to these extraordinary leaders!

We are proud to support this year’s NYC Mississippi in the Park as we continue celebrating the enduring legacy of Algernon Sydney Sullivan and the deep ties between the Sullivan family and New York City-a place that helped shape our vision for service and leadership.

This casual gathering is a chance for past NYC Sullivan Award recipients and friends of the Foundation to reconnect, build new relationships, and celebrate a shared commitment to lives of integrity and service.

If you’re in NYC, join fellow Sullivan alumni and past recipients for a picnic in the park featuring conversation, community, and Mississippi hospitality in the heart of the city. Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on a special Oxford, Mississippi weekend getaway hosted by The Sullivan Foundation.

Saturday, June 6 from Noon-4 p.m. at Hudson River Park, Pier 64
Hosted by The Mississippi Society of New York City

As we look back on our spring alumni events, we are filled with gratitude for so many impactful and memorable moments.

One highlight was recognizing Reverend Amy Cantrell, a 1994 Sullivan Award recipient from Converse University, with the 2026 Luminary Award. Amy is the co-director of Beloved Asheville, a community-rooted organization working to address housing insecurity, food access, and economic justice through grassroots organizing and long-term community care.

Amy was surrounded by her Converse family and 2025 Luminary Recipient, Julie Gehrki, who presented her with this prestigious award.

Her words spoke loudly and brought tears to many in the room: “Together, we are hundreds of lights igniting change. I encourage us all -- don’t stop, never stop loving humanity, being light, and walking the path to true greatness together. Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve!”

Year two of the Sullivan Fellows Program is all about relationships. 🤝

Through the ARC Leadership Model, Fellows learn how to listen deeply, engage their communities, build meaningful partnerships, and turn ideas into action. From one-on-one conversations to community asset mapping and project development, Fellows begin creating positive social impact alongside others. We are excited to announce our 2026 Sullivan Service Corps community partners for this season! We have been so fortunate to build a community rooted in service and to continue showing up in meaningful, impactful ways—still to this day. Wherever the need is, Sullivan will be there.

Please help us welcome our valued partner organizations: Eliada ETSA Program, Deep Time AVL and ABBC (Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry).

We are deeply grateful for their willingness to contribute their time, guidance, and expertise to our students this summer.

This year, we will send 8 students from 6 partner institutions to Asheville and the surrounding community to learn, serve, and engage in hands-on community impact.

Thank you to all of our supporters who make this work possible. You can still help sponsor a Sullivan Service Corps student for next year; opening doors for future leaders to step into communities with humility and purpose.

Applications open each April and selections are made in May.

Join us in investing in the next generation of servant leaders.

We were honored to hear former Governor of South Carolina and Director of the World Food Programme, David Beasley, speak at our University of South Carolina Centennial Celebration last month.

Gov. Beasley, a 2023 Algernon Sydney Sullivan recipient, joined fellow USC Sullivan Award recipients on April 19 at the Pastides Alumni Center in Columbia, SC.

The gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with Sullivan and reflect on the growth of programs and opportunities the Foundation has expanded since the award was first presented on their campus.

We are also proud to announce the USC + Sullivan Centennial Endowment. This endowment ensures that USC students will continue to access Sullivan Ignite Retreats, Fellowships, Service Corps, and Study Abroad opportunities for years to come.

Help us continue building this legacy of service and leadership:
