Grateful Patient Connection: Rodney Curran

Rodney Curran entered the Emergency Department at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital with chest pains. Now as a heart attack survivor, Rodney credits McCullough-Hyde’s Emergency Department team with saving his life.

“From the moment that I walked into the Emergency Room and said I needed help, God and the staff took over checking everything within a matter of a few minutes. From the time that I was placed into a bed at McCullough-Hyde, until I was boarded onto the helicopter, everyone there was by my side for my safety and conform. There was no dissension in the ranks that day in the Emergency Room as they all seemed to work together and at the same level.”

Saying thank you is a meaningful way to make a great impact. The McCullough-Hyde Foundation’s Grateful Patient Connections program gives patients and families the opportunity to recognize a caregiver or team member who made a difference in your care or the care of a family member with a donation in their honor and/or a special note of thanks. Donations made through Grateful Patient Connections support the mission of the McCullough-Hyde Foundation through the purchase of specialized equipment for McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital.

Because of you, our community has a place it can rely on for care that is close to home, guided by compassion, and held to the highest standards.

As a resident of Reily Township, I see every day how essential McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital is to the health and strength of our rural communities. Families face unique health challenges shaped by geography, limited transportation, workforce shortages, and fewer access points for care. In communities like ours, a strong local hospital is not a convenience. It is a necessity.

For generations, McCullough‑Hyde has served as the rural health anchor for this region. With deep roots and long standing trust, the hospital provides exceptional care to nearly 100,000 patients each year, offering emergency services, cancer care, orthopedics, women’s health, imaging, surgery, and more, close to where people live and work. Our Foundation’s work has helped ensure that mission continues.

We have invested in essential programs and services, supported community health initiatives, strengthened access for vulnerable patients, and provided education for dedicated hospital team members. Because of you, patients receive care with dignity, community partners receive critical resources, and caregivers are better prepared to serve with excellence.

As I complete my tenth and final year serving on the Board of Trustees, I am proud of what this community has accomplished. I have seen firsthand the extraordinary commitment of our donors and the lasting impact philanthropy has on sustaining rural health care.

I ask you now to renew your support. Your continued investment will help ensure that McCullough Hyde remains strong, accessible, and responsive to the evolving needs of our region. Thank you for your trust, your generosity, and your belief in this mission. It has been an honor to serve alongside you.

With gratitude,

Mary Butterfield, CPA
Board Chair
