We are proud to say that last month, the Oxford Chess Club has hosted it's first tournament, and by all accounts it was a great success! Thankyou to everyone who traveled all the way here to participate in our event. We also want to give a big thanks to the Oxford Alabama Public Library for letting us use their amazing facilities. Without them, we would have nowhere to call home. Finally we want to thank Caesar Chess for organizing and directing this tournament. Cheers to the first of many great events we have planned. We are proud to watch our chess club grow, and are happy to have all of you with us on this journey!

American chess legend Paul Morphy was born on this day in 1837. A chess prodigy, he was considered the best player in the world from 1857-1859, having dominated all opposition. He retired at the young age of 22 to pursue a legal career and never played competitive chess again.

As evidenced by his successes, Morphy was far superior to the other top players of his time. He is considered the first modern player, with an excellent grasp of development and dynamics.

Morphy passed away in 1884, at the age of 47.
