The Oxford Garden Club hosted the Tombigbee Valley District meeting at First Presbyterian Church, bringing to Oxford leaders of the 14 garden clubs that comprise the Tombigbee Valley District.
More than 110 garden club members attended the annual meeting and luncheon to highlight the accomplishments of the 14 clubs over the past year. Sassy Mauldin of Hernando, president of The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. (GCM), presented the awards.
The Oxford Garden Club received the First-Place Club award for the Tombigbee Valley District. Tupelo Garden Club placed second, followed by Starkville Town & Country Garden Club in third place. Numerous other clubs received special recognition for their projects.
The GCM’s Tombigbee Valley District is comprised of the Aberdeen Garden Club, Byhalia Garden Club, Columbus Garden Club, Dogwood Hills Garden Club (New Albany), Edelweiss Garden Club (Fulton), Galaxy Garden Club (Columbus), Garden Club of Taylor, Holly Springs Garden Club, Little Garden Club (Corinth), New Albany Garden Club, Oxford Garden Club, Starkville Town & Country Garden Club, Town & Country Garden Club (Holly Springs), and Tupelo Garden Club. Oxford Garden Club’s Cindy Kirk is serving her second year as director of the Tombigbee Valley District. Five OGC members serve on state committees, including Nan Davis, Dotsy Fitts, Marge McCauley, Barbara McIntosh, and Patricia Weathersby. Margaret Fancher serves as a state Director at Large.
We extend our gratitude to Senator Nicole Boyd, a member of the Mississippi State Senate and an Honorary Member of the Oxford Garden Club, for her thoughtful remarks regarding the significance of garden clubs in our state and their positive influence on the community.
Additionally, we would like to commend Chef Johnny Kirk for his outstanding work; he truly exceeded our expectations! His culinary creation is worthy of a Michelin star!
