We would like to congratulate one of the teachers we work with, Tammy Smith, 5th grade teacher at Morrice Area Schools , for being selected as the recipient of the 2026 Recognition Award at the Michigan Alliance for Environmental & Outdoor Education (MAEOE) Annual Conference over the weekend!

Tammy was nominated by our Environmental Education Coordinator, Brittany Rawza. Tammy and Brittany work together each year to plan her classroom's annual field trip as part of the Salmon in the Classroom program with the Michigan DNR. Tammy has brought her students to release their salmon at DeVries for over 7 years. A fun fact for you: the Mighigan DNR does not stock the Shiawassee River with chinook salmon. That means that if you've ever caught a salmon in the Shiwassee river in the last few years, it is very likely one of the fish raised and released by her students! 🎣
