Shiawassee Community Foundation

Shiawassee Community Foundation We believe anyone can be a philanthropist. For Good. For Ever. Scholarship and grant amounts vary from year to year. Kellogg Foundation.

The Shiawassee Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 independent public charity offering individuals and institutions a way to give back to their community. Donations made to the community foundation are accepted in any amount and may be used to either start a new fund or add to an existing fund. All donations are deductible as a charitable gift for Federal Income tax purposes. In 1974, five community

-minded people came together to form the Shiawassee Community Foundation. They started with $5 and the goal of improving life for people in Shiawassee County. As a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit, the foundation has since grown to manage over 100 funds totaling more than $12 million. The foundation currently
employs three staff members who are overseen by a Board of Directors. The community foundation administers over 100 unique scholarship and grant funds. Each fund has its own purpose determined by the original founder when the fund is first established. There are several variables that the community foundation must consider when determining how much to spend annually. The community foundation must preserve the principal balance of each endowment fund in perpetuity while at the same time generate enough investment income to award grants and scholarships. The SCF also supports a Youth Advisory Council (YAC) that was founded in 1995 through an endowment from the
W.K. The YAC is comprised of community-focused students aged 12-21 from the Shiawassee area. YAC empowers youth to make an impact and become young philanthropists through volunteerism and involvement in the grant-making process.
