Michigan Area Radio Enthusiasts, Inc. Everything a Radio Hobbyist could want! Click for more details or see

('MARE' for short) is a non-profit hobby club dedicated to providing information about all radio hobbies. We are recognized by the State of Michigan and the (US) Federal government as a 501(c)(7) non-profit corporation, and membership is open to anyone who has an interest in any radio hobby. In addition to producing a bi-monthly paper newsbulletin, and 'e-publishing' frequent "TipSheets" (e-mail n

ewsletters) 'MARE' also organizes frequent local meetings in Michigan (and occasionally to surrounding areas for special events)

here’s your semi-annual reminder that UTC (you know — the time zone you SHOULD reference when posting stuff about radio in places like radio clubs and Facebook!) does not flip randomly about because of ‘Daylight Shifting Time’.

What was 7PM Sunday EST (0000 UTC Monday UTC) will be 8PM Sunday EDT (0000 Monday UTC) but it’s easier to just ignore Eastern or Central or Pacific or even Mountain time and stick with UTC ALL the time. 😁

And DO report your loggings to MARE for the TipSheet!

FYI -- for anyone in the radio hobbies who is 'new' the whole 'daylight shifting change' may confuse you but the SIMPLE answer is that UTC never changes. Ever. Not even once. (Well except for leap seconds but that won't cause you to be an hour off!)
SO -- 'think' in UTC instead of whatever your local time may be and you'll avoid all this silliness. Just remember, what was EDT is UTC -4 hours and EST is UTC -5 hours ... but really, just think in UTC and it is a lot easier! :)

Here's your regular reminder that no matter what foolishness society may try to foist upon you, UTC doesn't change.

Starting Sunday, if you MUST convert, 8 PM Sunday EDT becomes 0000 Monday UTC.

But just set a clock to UTC and stop trying to convert. It's a lot easier!

You are about to be inundated with lots of memes featuring a certain pop diva about changing the clocks.
Here's your regular reminder that UTC does not change.
What was 8 PM EDT on Monday (0000 UT on Tuesday) becomes 7PM EST on Monday (0000 UT on Tuesday).

The makers of UTC agree changing time is silly and unnecessary, but the stations don't understand and the times of broadcasts and programming may shift.

This ALREADY happened in Europe and will happen in North America next week, and the Aussies and NZ folk are just 'different' (they are just now *entering* 'Summer' (DST) time -- Aussies started on October 6, and Kiwis started at the end of September and both won't 'fall back' until THEIR fall next year April ....)

See what I mean? It is just too bloody complicated -- pick a time and stick with it already! UTC has the right idea!
