Last night, members of Owosso Professional Fire Fighters were on standby at Owosso Speedway providing EMS coverage for another exciting night of racing.

While everyone hopes for a smooth evening, our firefighters and paramedics are there to ensure drivers, crews, and spectators receive immediate care if an emergency occurs. We are proud to support community events that bring people together while helping keep everyone safe.

Thank you to the staff, racers, and fans for another great night at the track. We’ll see you at the next race!

It’s officially that time of year when our fire station becomes the center of the action.

For the next several days, thousands of people will fill downtown Owosso to enjoy rides, food, parades, and all the traditions that make Curwood such a special event. While the festival is underway, your firefighters will be on duty 24/7, ready to respond whenever we’re needed.

If you’re attending Curwood, stop by and say hello! We always enjoy meeting members of the community, answering questions about the fire service, and showing the younger future firefighters where the magic happens.

Just remember—if the tones drop, our conversation may have to continue another time.

We hope everyone has a safe and memorable Curwood Festival. Enjoy the rides, support the local vendors, and celebrate everything that makes Owosso a great community.

Training today to better serve our community tomorrow! Today, your A shift firefighters took time to train our newest firefighter on pump operations- this is a critical part of firefighting. From establishing a reliable water supply to delivering the proper fire flows, these skills help us operate safely and effectively on the fireground. Regular training allows our firefighters to stay proficient, build confidence, and work seamlessly as a team.

Local 504 is proud to serve our community!

May 17th marks the start of National EMS week!

This week, we pause to recognize the incredible dedication of our members, who take immense pride in providing top-tier Emergency Medical Services to the City of Owosso and our surrounding communities. We also stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters providing life-saving care across the nation.

Local 504 is comprised of firefighter/EMTs and firefighter/paramedics, including several critical care paramedics as well as EMTs currently enrolled in the paramedic academy.

Being a first responder is far more than just a job; it’s a calling. But behind the flashing lights and the sirens, there is a gritty reality to this profession that often goes unseen by the public. Today, we want to share a few truths about the very real challenges our crews navigate every single day to keep our community safe:

• The Physical Toll: The work is undeniably grueling. From pushing through the exhaustion of 24-hour shifts and heavily interrupted sleep to physically navigating any environment you can imagine, the demands on the human body can be relentless.

• The Mental Weight: Our crews are expected to bring calm to chaos and make split-second, life-altering decisions in high-stakes environments. They carry the quiet, heavy weight of witnessing people on the absolute worst days of their lives, managing complex trauma, and absorbing the emotional toll of the job.

• The Personal Sacrifice: The tones don't care if it's Thanksgiving, a child’s first birthday, or 3:00 AM in the middle of a blizzard. Our members routinely sacrifice time with their own families and loved ones so they can be there for yours.

Despite the physical wear and tear, the mental exhaustion, and the missed milestones at home, our crews continue to show up. They train endlessly, they respond without hesitation, and they do it because they care deeply about protecting and serving this community.

To our members at Local 504, and to every EMS professional across the country: Thank you. We see your sacrifices, we respect your resilience, and we are incredibly proud of the work you do.

If you see an EMS provider this week, take a moment to say thanks. It goes further than you will ever know. 🚒🚑

We value the partnership we have with our local law enforcement. Working together ensures better outcomes for the people we serve and helps build trust across all agencies.

That said, we did notice one officer taking a little extra time checking out the truck… we get it. Not everyone gets to do the cool stuff every day 😎🚒

Our crew on Medic 1 had a bit of an unexpected mission today. While out on the road, they spotted this handsome Miniature Schnauzer wandering where he shouldn't be.

Even though he was surprisingly fast on those little legs, our team was able to safely catch up to him and get him out of harm's way. 🚒💨

The Best Part?

We are happy to report that this "bearded wanderer" has already been reunited with his family! We love a happy ending, especially when it involves keeping our four-legged neighbors safe.

Great work to the crew for looking out for every member of our community—big or small!

Today’s shift took advantage of the weather to get hands-on with pump operations training, focusing on flowing water from the engine and dialing in the fundamentals that make the difference on the fireground.

Crews practiced:

* Operating the deck gun to flow large volumes of water quickly

* Communication between the pump operator and hydrant crew

* Understanding water supply and flow dynamics

Congratulations on the promotion Lieutenant Miller and welcome to the team Austin!
