In 1978, artist Gilbert Baker (1951-2017), created the first Pride flag. The flag was first raised at San Francisco Pride on June 25, 1978. You may notice this 8 color flag looks a bit different than the 6 stripe flag that is so well known as the symbol of the LGBTQ+ Community. Gilbert referred to the 6 stripe design as the "commercial version". The original flag design was modified to 6 colors because pink fabric was too rare and expensive at the time for practical consideration. The turquoise stripe was also removed to make an even number of stripes. 🏳️‍🌈

Happy Pride Month Y'all!

Visibility. Acceptance. Authenticity. Education. Community. These are the reasons we celebrate Pride both in June and everyday.

Seeing the Owosso Pride Community come together in celebration on Saturday, filled us with so much joy. We are excited to share more photos and videos of the day, but we thought this photo captured that joy beautifully.
