St. Thomas' Episcopal Church

St. Thomas' Episcopal Church A servant church. Loving God and loving our neighbors. A place to belong. Since our founding in 1742, the people of St. Although St.

Thomas’ have been dedicated to loving God and serving the people of the Greenspring Valley and surrounding communities. For nearly three centuries, people have worshiped God at the corner of Garrison Forest Road and Saint Thomas Lane. The old walls of our beautiful church have been bathed in the prayers and songs of many generations. In addition to providing a spiritual haven, we follow Jesus’ com

mand to love our neighbor by partnering with many organizations in Baltimore County and City, sharing our abundance with under-served communities. Thomas’ has been around for a long time, we are always looking for new and creative ways to be a servant church. We would love for you to be part of our ongoing mission of faith and generosity!

Today the Church remembers the First Book of Common Prayer, 1549.

Almighty and everliving God, who through the Book of Common Prayer restored the language of the people in the prayers of your church: Make us always thankful for this heritage; and help us so to pray in the Spirit and with understanding, that we may worthily magnify your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom then shall I fear?
the Lord is the strength of my life;

"Falling Upward: Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life," by
Richard Rohr

In "Falling Upward," Father Richard Rohr offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life’s mysteries: how our failings can be the foundation for our ongoing spiritual growth. Drawing on the wisdom from time-honored myths, heroic poems, great thinkers, and sacred religious texts, the author explores the two halves of life to show that those who have fallen, failed, or “gone down” are the only ones who understand “up.” We grow spiritually more by doing it wrong than by doing it right.

Today is the Feast of Saint Barnabas the Apostle.

Join us for Morning Prayer at 9:00 in the Old School Building.

All are welcome!

Grant, O God, that we may follow the example of your faithful servant Barnabas, who, seeking not his own renown but the wellbeing of your Church, gave generously of his life and substance for the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
