Mission: I'm Home, Stevenson University

Mission: I'm Home, Stevenson University Mission: I'm Home is an organization focused on rehabilitating damaged or destroyed houses enabling displaced families to return home.

Mission I’m Home is an Alternative Break program engaging a diverse group of students in social issues through service, education, and reflection. We have expanded from our original trip to assist in the rebuilding effort in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina to other areas devastated by natural disasters. During the last 9 years we have traveled to New York, New Jersey, New Orleans, and Bato

n Rouge to support the rebuilding efforts. Last year, we added a Fall Serve trip, allowing students the opportunity to be introduced to a variety of nonprofits in our local Baltimore community. All of our Mission: I’m Home trips are described as eye-opening and life changing. Our intent is to help students through the journey of becoming actively engaged citizens, understanding the importance of actively supporting their community. MIH is a Special Interest Group at Stevenson University. This group was formed by students following an amazing experience in St. Bernard Parish just east of New Orleans helping to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Our first service event of the year! We are partnering with Meals on Wheels to bring comfort to home bound clients with Mugs of Love. Mugs of Love involves filling mugs with packaged goodies and a heartfelt card/note. See above for suggested items. If you are unable to go out to purchase a mug and goodies, clients would love a simple heartfelt card or note!

Sending prayers and positive thoughts to our friends and family in New Orleans!

Our roots in New Orleans began six months after Katrina. It’s our home base, our original operating site. Every way we’ve grown as an organization in the last decade has come from a desire to prevent the suffering we observed in those early days—from our resiliency work ahead of disaster to investing in the long-term recovery after, and to the government advocacy and policy in between. SBP’s disaster response team is prepped and ready to deploy from the New Orleans and Houston operating sites. Muck and gut and mold remediation kits are also packed and ready to go. Our community—and others—will need us.

Hello friends of MIH:

For those who don’t know me, I went on a MIH trip January 2015 of my senior year and loved giving back to a community who needed our help. I now have the opportunity to provide help to a community in need in a different way. In fall 2022, I’ll be going on a trip with Global Autism Project.
Global Autism Project is an organization that partners with autism centers around the world to help children access services they need. They provide funding and supplies to keep centers open, but more importantly provide ongoing training to staff so that they can run the centers on their own! Making sure that the work is sustainable when volunteers aren’t there is a huge part of their mission. I’m going to (hopefully) Ecuador with them in fall 2022 to help train staff at a partner site!

I’ll be there for 2 weeks. Any donations I receive go towards GAP and funding partner sites. This helps with supplies, ongoing trainings, autism summits, autism education, etc. It also goes towards helping fund new partner sites in new locations! Community autism education and funding new partner sites is especially important, because unfortunately there is still a negative stigma surrounding autism in many other countries and services can be hard to come by. The more partner sites GAP can assist, the more children who receive the education the need, and the more autism acceptance we can see around the world.

My fundraising page has more information about my trip and I am also happy to answer any questions if you have them 🙂 Even if you’re unable to donate, sharing my fundraising page with others would be extremely helpful and much appreciated!
