The Ursuline Sisters wished a fond farewell to Carol Braden-Clarke on her retirement May 29, 2026. Carol has served as director of Development for the Sisters since January 2019, where she helped launch the Kindness Campaign and Quilt Bingo, and re-established many of the development efforts that were hindered during Covid. Good luck in the future Carol!

It's time for Throwback Thursday! This Sister had a rough beginning to life. She was only a girl when her mother died at 28 years old. When it came time for her to go to high school, her father, a police officer, needed a place where she would be cared for, and selected Mount Saint Joseph Academy. Following her graduation, she became a Sister in 1931, and taught school for 33 years. Later in life she turned to parish ministry, including serving on an Acoma Indian Reservation in New Mexico. She returned to Maple Mount in 1983 and was the sponsor for the Alumnae Association, while also helping in the archives. She died on June 17, 1999. Who was this Sister who always had a heart for the poor?

The Ursuline Sisters pray for and honor all those who gave their lives in service to our country.

In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Every color in the rainbow is present at Maple Mount in the spring, but today we feature white -- the bright white that has returned to many of the statues on campus, thanks to the power washing and painting efforts of Maintenance manager Wes Casey and his crew. There are some photos to compare the Saint Agnes statue and one of the tombstones in the cemetery, which have also been cleaned.
