Shawnee Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America Western Kentucky Boy Scout Regional Area These increases make the Shawnee Trails Council one of the top five fastest growing councils in the nation.

Based in Owensboro, Kentucky, the Shawnee Trails Council covers an area consisting of thirty-five western Kentucky counties, three southern Illinois counties, and the community of South Fulton, Tennessee. Currently, the council serves over 5,200 youth in a variety of Scouting programs such as Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, and Exploring. Since January 2009, the council has seen an average mont

hly growth of 11% in youth membership, an average of 3.5% increase in adult membership, with a 25% increase in camp attendance over the summer.

To all Scouts and Scout Leaders across the Commonwealth of Kentucky,

You are cordially invited to BOY SCOUTS AT THE CAPITAL DAY on Tuesday February 21st in Frankfort Kentucky. Our state capital is rolling out the red carpet for all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts Sea Scouts, Explorers and Tiger Cubs. You and your families are cordially invited to tour the Capital as we celebrate Boy Scouts at the Capital Day.

Activities will run from 9am to 3pm with a Grand Assembly on the Capitol Steps at 11:30am Eastern time. Invited speakers at the Assembly include …

Governor Steve Beshear, Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo, President of the Senate David Williams, State Representative Ben Waide, and State Representative Martha Jane King.

Activities are for all family members. They include…

□ Self Guided Tours of the State Capitol Building by group or individuals

□ Governor’s Mansion Tours 9am to noon, First come first serve.

□ See the House of Representatives Chambers (Group Photo opportunity)

□ See the Senate Chambers

□ See the Supreme Court

□ Take the underground tunnel to visit with your Representative or Senator (must arrange with your legislator’s office 502-564-8100)

Legislators may be in that morning or afternoon as Session will not begin until 4pm. So, you can call and see if your legislator can meet your unit in the Capitol.

□ Tour the History Mobile (which will be parked by the State Capitol Building)

□ Take the TROLLEY into Historic Downtown Frankfort and tour historic sites like …

o The Old State Capitol Building

o The Thomas D Clark Center for Kentucky History

o Daniel Boone’s Grave site

o The Kentucky Military History Museum at the Kentucky Arsenal (New this year)

o Eat at some wonderful downtown restaurants in Frankfort.

Our Big Event is the Grand Assembly on the front steps of the Capitol at 11:30am. We ask that all units be gathered there for this event. If the weather is bad we will gather in the Capitol Building itself.

We ask that everyone eat before you come to the Capitol and enjoy the local restaurants while you are here. The Trolley will be taking groups and individuals and stopping regularly at local restaurants.

More information will be posted right here on the official page called “Shawnee Trails Council , Boy Scouts of America”.

Remember, the children can be granted an education day away from school. Just ask the Principal and they will arrange the excused absence.
