If you don't know of FCRC, it is our Intake Facility in Owens Cross Roads, AL. It's an 8,000 sq. foot building with 53 kennels and a cat room situated on 10 acres. Honestly, it's a piece of heaven. We bring dogs and cats in from traditional shelters, rehab and ready them for adoption and transport them to our Chicago Adoption facility and our partners around the country. The difference we make here for these animals is huge and I am constantly in awe of my talented staff and their abilities. This pup, for instance, was a shy gal who came in not too long ago. On Sunday, she slipped away from her handler and ran off into the woods. After hours of searching, fliering and posting her everywhere, we put out multiple food and waters and left a play yard open in case she came back. Monday morning I drove up to an employee sitting on the treeline talking to this pup while tossing treats her way. We grabbed her best friend, Finn, in hopes she would follow him into the yard. What she did instead was amazing. She started walking behind us but decided to skip the yard and follow pup Lucy straight into the building. Once inside, she ran down the aisle and sat at her empty kennel. See, freedom for a night is awesome but nothing beats the treatment and love of the caretakers here at FCRC. I told the staff that choosing to be in our shelter is the biggest compliment any animal can give you and I am so very proud of this.
Please join me in giving the staff an Atta Girl and if you're able, we need some food!
The address is 266 Hamer Rd, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763

We need your help - please share this post! We’re looking for a home for these two beautiful boys. Bear, a four-year-old, 105lb chocolate lab and his BFF Kevin, a two-year-old, 75lb Pyrenees mix are absolute besties and looking for a home together. They were abandoned on green mountain and have not left one another’s side. They are currently in a foster home in Huntsville where they are dream dogs. Loving and playful, great with other dogs, housebroken, well-mannered, and can be left unattended without issue. Kevin loves to explore outside, Bear just likes to be with Kevin! We know it’s so hard to place a bonded pair, especially when they’re BIG boys, but man are these two awesome and so good.

They are getting neutered today, and are vaccinated, microchipped, current on preventatives. Bear tested faint positive for heartworms, which we will treat at no cost to the adopter. We are offering a reduced adoption fee of $200 for the pair in order to keep them together. If you’re interested, please email [email protected] - let’s find these babes their forever home!

After our post yesterday, our friends out in Lawrence County said: “Hey! We hear you’re in the market for more big black dogs (and puppies and cats!), right?!” Ummmm… yeah, I guess we are! Let’s throw in a few extra for good measure, too. Say hello to today’s cuties!

When your friends at Scottsboro Animal Control call and say they’ve got a bunch of big, black, senior, heartworm positive, parvo positive dogs that need rescue… the only appropriate response is “hold my beer!”

Say hello to the 19 newest residents of the Rescue Center!!! Also, an impossibly huge shout out to our partners at Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) who welcome so many of these incredible pups into their program! We could never save this many without their tireless support. We’re endlessly grateful to you and our Chicago crew Felines & Canines!!!!

Our babies are so grateful and sleeping well tonight thanks so everyone who sent in puppy food and p*e pads. Most items were delivered without any donor info, but please know we are SO appreciative of all of the support and your generosity. Thank you for helping to keep our pups full and as clean and dry as possible ❤️
