Last week’s lesson continued to build on previous weeks learning about empathy and walking in someone else’s shoes. We took it to the next step and talked about how sometimes all it takes is that one person to step up for someone else and make that difference. We put kindness into action through a project that allows participants to spread joy to others. We left with the reminder: KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS

We kicked off our session last week with a mini lesson and our mantra: LIVE TO SERVE!🩷

One of the best days of BIO Girls is Service Project Day! 🩷This session is dedicated to giving back to our community. We chose to make and deliver May Day baskets to the Clark County Health & Rehab Center.

The best part about giving back is that anyone can do it. We had such an amazing day visiting with the residents at this facility. Our hearts are overflowing!🩷

💕In a world that focuses on “me” we shifted our focus to others a couple of weeks ago. Our lesson encouraged participants to pause and consider others’ feelings. We talked about empathy and what the world might be like through someone else’s perspective. We even practiced some empathy in action by working through various situations in our groups. The mantra: STEP INSIDE THEIR STORY reminds us that not everyone sees things the way that we do. 💕

Passive. Aggressive. Assertive. Our last session, the girls learned how they can stand up for themselves using clear and kind communication skills. Our lesson included demonstrations on tone, body language, and even how the words we use can show confidence and respect.

Our mantra.: BRAVE AND KIND, EVERY TIME

The mantra is a simple reminder of how it’s OK to stand up for ourselves when needed.

Session 3: Anxiety and Coping

Last Wednesday, we explored what and how anxiety might show up in your body 🏃‍♀️ , including the brain’s fight, flight or freeze responses. We spent time identifying worries, becoming aware of the connections between thoughts 🩷 and feelings, and learning some tools to help cope with feelings of worry. Ask your participant what it might look like to “flip your lid”! We ended our session with today’s mantra: PEACE ✌️ BEGINS WITH ME and worked on our strength building as we prepare to RUN this week! 🏃‍♀️

Everyone wants to belong and fit in but sometimes we can feel left out or lonely. We kicked off our session yesterday by building a big puzzle that showed how as individuals we are different but we all can fit together!

We moved into our lesson talking about the differences between a “red” flag and “green” flag friend, helping participants learn about building healthy and positive relationships with peers.

We reflected on the importance of inclusivity and learned a new mantra: BE THE FRIEND YOU NEED!

Session 1: CELEBRATING OUR STRENGTHS

We kicked off our season of BIO Girls yesterday! We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve youth in our community through this program. We did some icebreakers to get to know each other, talked about the definition of strength and how it’s OK to be strong in some areas and weaker in others. We celebrated our strengths by building a strength chain and shouted our mantra: MESSY AND MIGHTY!
