Lily's Art for Charity

Lily's Art for Charity This page will be used to share artwork created by Lily. Artwork will be sold to raise money for various charities.

Right now, we are working to raise money for our local animal shelter. This page is dedicated to raising money for various charities by exchanging artwork for donations. All artwork is made by Lily, a young artist with a big heart, who wants to help others and give back to her community. Lily specializes in drawing cats, but has a wide range of subject matter in her artwork.

Lily has gotten into making paper (it’s actually really easy and fun; you should try it sometime). This is one of her latest pieces—it turned out great, and she did it all on her own. There’s a dandelion flower embedded into the paper for an extra-special spring touch. 🌼

Wildwood Zoo regrets to announce the passing of "Lucy", a white-tail doe.

Lucy was humanely euthanized this morning after careful consideration. She was born on May 20th of 2003, making her just over 19 years old! Living in the wild, the expectance of deer is around 4-5 but under human care they can live into their late teens. Staff and the veterinarian team have been closely monitoring her condition over the last few months as it became increasingly apparent that her age was catching up to her.

Lucy was one of the most social members of the deer herd, seeking out chin scratches from her zookeepers and politely asking for watermelon, her favorite snack. She will be greatly missed by staff and visitors alike.

It’s not often you see an orange female.

And so it begins ... KITTEN SEASON! 😭 This beautiful momma kitty recently came to the shelter with her two week old kittens. Yes, they are absolutely adorable, but females giving birth to hundreds of kittens a year is not. The Fix Is In, Inc., now located in Wausau, has appointments available in April. Get your pets and outdoor cats scheduled NOW to avoid contributing to kitten season and animal overpopulation! 🙀 More info at https://thefixisin.org/make-appointment/

NOTE: momma and kittens will be in a foster home for at least 6 weeks until they are old enough for their spay/neuter surgeries.

We are still in discussion as to which charity we are going to raise money for this year. It’s hard to pick just one, but we’ll get it figured out soon, and we hope to start raising money in February. This time, Lily’s brother Palmer will be joining in!

We also have tons of great ideas about what we’ll be selling to raise the money. Lily loved drawing people’s pets for them, and we may even start offering paintings, clay sculptures (haven’t you always wanted a little, clay sculpture of your cat?), or hand-sewn plushies. Decisions, decisions…

In the mean-time, here is a recent painting by Lily called “Rainbow Moon.”

Reflecting back on this year, there were so many incredible moments. I will never forget this one…

A mother skunk was found caught in an illegal leg-hold trap that caused severe damage to her leg. While she received the urgent care she needed, animal control searched for her babies. It took days before they found them - thankfully all were still alive and able to be reunited with their mother.

In the days before they were found, we introduced the mother skunk to a lonely orphaned baby we had received. We had hoped that she would be open to caring for the scared little one…

Her response was immediate. She gently placed her mouth around the baby and pulled it toward her. She stood over it to protect it from the people observing. At that time, she was a mother without her babies and it was a baby without a mother. Their bond was instant and so touching to witness.

When all was said and done, she actually ended up adopting two babies and raising her six original babies that she was reunited with.

All were released together to live their lives bigger, stronger and free. That is our mission. Always has been. Always will be.

Each year, Project Feederwatch holds its annual citizen science bird-counting event. It's great fun to watch your birdfeeders and count all your feathered friends. The data of participants is used to monitor bird populations. It costs $18 to participate, and is a great educational opportunity if you have kids.

Your membership fuels discoveries to make the planet a better place for birds, for all wildlife, and for people.

Hi, my name is Crouton and I'm 5 months old! Normally the shelter staff wrack their brains trying to come up with a clever profile for us kitties. In my case, though, they said all you have to do is look at the picture. Go ahead, I'll wait. Did you see it? Do you still need a description of my personality? Really? Ok, I suppose! I am just as sweet in person as I am in my picture. I love people and other cats and I am literally the cutest animal that has ever been. Apply to visit me today! 😺💕 www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/adopt
