Our Teacher of the Year, Liza Drever, had the honor tonight of presenting the Owatonna Education Association Future Educator Scholarship to two outstanding graduating seniors. Each recipient was awarded $1,000 to support their continued studies in the field of education.

Congratulations to Georgia Schrom and Brynn Andrix (who accepted her award via FaceTime because her golf team had a meet) on this well-deserved recognition!

Brynn will continue her education at Gustavus Adolphus College, while Georgia will attend Louisiana State University this fall.

We are proud to support the next generation of educators and look forward to seeing the impact these future educators will make.

Please join us in congratulating and wishing these seniors the best of luck!!

Our current Teacher of the Year, Lisa Thorson, created a heartfelt slideshow featuring words and reflections from colleagues and students that truly captured the impact each nominee has every day. It was a meaningful tribute to their dedication and passion for education.

The night concluded with the exciting reveal of our 2026 Teacher of the Year: high school math teacher, Liza Drever!

We are proud to honor this year’s Friend of Education recipients: the Owatonna Public Schools Success Coaches.

These dedicated individuals serve as vital liaisons, helping bridge language barriers and ensuring that all students and staff can connect, learn, and succeed in the classroom. They also play a critical role in helping us connect with families, which is an essential part of supporting student success.

Their work strengthens communication, builds relationships, and creates more inclusive learning environments for everyone.

We are incredibly grateful for their commitment, compassion, and the essential support they provide each and every day. Our schools are stronger because of them. Please join us in thanking them for all that they do!

Please help us celebrate an incredible milestone and honor for eight outstanding educators who are retiring this year. Together, they represent 241 years of dedication, passion, and impact in the classroom.

For generations of students, they have been more than teachers - they have been mentors, role models, encouragers, and champions. Their collective legacy lives on in the countless lives they’ve shaped, the curiosity they’ve sparked, and the communities they’ve strengthened.

While it’s impossible to measure the full reach of their influence, one thing is certain: their work has made a lasting difference.

Thank you for your dedicated service to education and to our students. You will be deeply missed, but your impact will continue for years to come.

Congratulations on your well-earned retirement!

Join us in celebrating our 2026 Teacher of the Year, Liza Drever! 🎉

Liza was honored last night at our annual Educators Awards and Recognition Banquet, and we couldn’t be more proud. As a dedicated high school math teacher, Liza brings passion, curiosity, and heart into her classroom every day.

She credits her colleagues as her biggest influence - growing through observing their teaching, asking questions, listening, and collaborating. This commitment to continuous learning shines through in everything she does.

What Liza loves most about teaching is building meaningful relationships with her students and working alongside some of her closest friends.

Congratulations, Liza, and thank you for the incredible impact you make on our students and school community! 🍎📚
