Band of Angels

Band of Angels Band of Angels is a 501 (c)(3) that provides instruments & music camp scholarships to children. Unrepairable instruments are repurposed to benefit our programs.

Band of Angels is a 501c3 Charity that collects music instruments and provides them to children in need for free so they can join band and orchestra programs. We also provide scholarships for area children to attend summer music camp. Donated instruments are refurbished and restored before given to a child. We accept monetary and instrument donations, as well as run fundraising events such as the Heart Strings Gala charity concert and Art That Blows, a charity art auction.

These KU high school campers from last week showed up and made us proud in every way 🎶💙

Moments like this are exactly WHY Band of Angels exists. It’s about breaking down barriers so students don’t miss out on life changing music opportunities just because of access, cost, or resources.

Because of that mission, students get to go to camp, learn, grow, and see what’s possible when someone believes in them.

That’s where Art That Blows comes in.

Art That Blows is our summer fundraising even — where donated instruments that are deemed unrepairable are transformed into art and auctioned off to directly fund instruments, camps, scholarships, and private lessons for students across Kansas and Missouri. Every ticket sold and every bid made on art turns into real access for real kids in your COMMUNITY.

At Band of Angels, moments like Daleyza receiving her step-up clarinet remind us what this work is truly about—opening doors for young musicians to grow, learn, and be seen.

Art That Blows exists to create those doors.

On Friday, July 10, we invite you to join us in the Crossroads for an evening where art, music, and community come together in support of student opportunity. Your attendance directly fuels summer music camp scholarships, private lessons, college scholarships, instruments, and expanded access for students across our region.

The night will feature a student talent showcase, artwork created from unplayable instruments available for auction, live music, drinks, and a gathering of supporters who believe in the power of music education.

Still thinking about last Saturday...
It was such a joy to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters KC to put on the 3rd Annual Musical Instrument Petting Zoo! We welcomed Bigs, Littles, and their families in to hear live performances from our amazing Band of Angels student musicians, try out instruments from the horn to the harp, and to create lifelong memories.
Littles received a passport in which they collected a sticker from each instrument they chose to try out! Our Band of Angels student musicians presented their instruments enthusiastically and taught each Little how to make a sound.
The smiles that filled the building were truly unmatched!

Today, we're featuring another fabulous Rock Star- Bella Caracta!

Bella is an investigative reporter with our partner FOX4 News Kansas City. A graduate of Duke University, Bella has been with Fox 4 for a little over a year and is already making change in her community through Band of Angels. Before moving to Kansas City, Bella worked as an anchor in Omaha, NE and worked in Durham, NC. Growing up, Bella competed in martial arts and has a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She is currently a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.

This isn’t just a night of music and art. This is about students, individual kids who face real barriers to accessing music education every day. Kids who want to play but don’t have instruments, don’t have lessons, and don’t have consistent access to opportunities that keep them in music.

Art That Blows exists to change that directly.

Every dollar raised goes toward supporting students one on one through instrument donations, music camp scholarships, college scholarships, private lessons, performance opportunities, and more. This is hands on support for real students in our community, not abstract funding.

Proof that great art and great campers both know how to steal the spotlight. 🎸🥁👅
Jeremiah got to attend KU Midwestern Music Camp last week through the Band of Angels Summer Music Camp Scholarship Program. Jeremiah loved playing the trumpet at camp with new friends and shooting hoops in his free time with his counselors!

This Eric Campbell piece was his favorite among the Art That Blows pieces.

This year, at the Art That Blows event on July 10th, we will be launching our Love Notes Camp Challenge with the goal of sending as many students to summer music camps as possible!
