League of Women Voters of Johnson County KS

League of Women Voters of Johnson County KS Nonpartisan political organization, encouraging informed and active participation in government, influencing public policy through education and advocacy.

We welcome a diversity of opinions and encourage discussion of the issues on this page. We want to keep our page an open forum and make sure everyone feels comfortable participating. People are allowed to not like us and our views. That's part of the deal with being on social media. In general, we leave negative comments alone. Any comment increases your post in the algorithm so deleting

is not necessarily our best option. LWVUS does this. It's a balance between: Is this comment part of the discussion or it is something that could hurt our brand? If engaging is possible, go for it, particularly if you are concerned that the comment could roll into a crisis. This is more true on Twitter where things can go viral quickly. But more often, it's easiest to just let it go and leave as a part of our open forum. We want people to tell us what's on their minds, but if it falls into any of the categories below, we’ll remove it:

- We do not allow graphic, obscene, explicit or racial comments or submissions nor do we allow comments that are abusive, hateful or intended to defame anyone or any organization. We will not tolerate harassment or bullying of any kind. In other words, be nice and respectful of others and their opinions.

- We do not allow third-party solicitations or advertisements. This includes promotion or endorsements, in addition to attempts to defame or defraud any third-party organizations or groups.

- In order to maintain nonpartisanship, we do not allow endorsement or opposition of political candidates. Any posts by others about a candidate is not an endorsement or opposition by the League of Women Voters.

- We also do not allow spam. We encourage people to share material with us, but please remain germane and relevant.

- We do not allow comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity. Finally, you participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided.

Our program for the June 6 meeting will be a presentation on the suffrage rights of those who have been convicted of crimes, completed their sentences, are now Kansas citizens, and are now restored to their suffrage rights. You may know someone affected by these rights and can share more information with them! You will learn about studies that show significant benefits for the affected people, as well as for the community at large, when those restored rights are known and acted upon. And don’t you think the candidates you support should be interested in earning the votes of these thousands of Kansas citizens?

Come for this insightful and informative presentation from our league president, Alleen Vanbebber.

Join us in person, or watch on YouTube live or later at https://www.youtube.com/.

Please bring donation items for the SMUUCh food pantry.

Pride has always been more than a celebration -- it's a movement.

This Pride Month, we honor the LGBTQ+ advocates and organizers who have pushed our country closer to its democratic ideals.

Pride is protest. Pride is power. Pride is community. Happy Pride Month!
