October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This month, we honor those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer, including our beloved Soror Hattie McDaniel, who passed away from breast cancer in 1952 at the age of 57.

In her honor and memory, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. established the Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness and Health Program. The program was created to promote education, encourage early detection of breast, prostate, ovarian, colon, and other cancers, and support research focused on cancer prevention.

Today, this work has evolved into the Women’s Wellness Initiative, empowering chapters to address health issues that disproportionately impact women, particularly women of color.

We celebrate breast cancer survivors and honor their strength while working diligently to raise awareness and help create a future with more survivors.

🍂 RESTOCKTOBER IS HERE! 🍂

This October, Leavenworth Interfaith Community of Hope is working to restock our shelves before the cold winter months arrive.

Right now, we are extremely low on food supplies and are not receiving commodities. Food, cleaning, personal-care, and shelter supplies are vital to our day-to-day operations and to serving our guests with dignity.

You can help by donating needed items such as breakfast bars and pastries, coffee, cereal, juice, lunch meat, toilet paper, disinfectant, laundry detergent, travel coffee cups, trash bags, blankets, coats, sweatshirts, hand warmers, and more.

Want to involve your school, business, church, or group? We would be grateful to provide a collection bin so your community can help restock these essential items.

Donations may be brought to Community of Hope at 311 Kiowa in Leavenworth, daily from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Please donate new or gently used items in good condition.

Every item makes a difference. Thank you for helping us provide warmth, nourishment, and hope this winter. 💙
