YMCA Challenger YMCA Challenger offers recreational activities for children and young adults with disabilities We've found that the players aren't the only ones who benefit.

Sports include baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer, bowling and more. Other fitness activities are offered to keep athletes active all year round. Social outings, educational classes and other recreational activities are also offered through the Challenger program. Challenger activities are supported by coaches and by a buddy system in which volunteers assist participants when needed. Coac

hes and buddies get to know each Challenger athlete and adapt each activity to meet their needs and abilities. Social interaction among players and buddies often gives players a completely new outlet for communication and exchange. Over the years, long-lasting friendships have been forged through the Challenger Program. Another exciting component of the Challenger program is our Fred and Shirley Pryor Sports Complex, an adaptive outdoor recreational facility for sports and play. The smooth, even surfaces remove barriers and ensure that everyone can be part of the game. The playground includes ramps and equipment designed to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers and other devices. Mark- June 4, 2026. The FIRST Home Run OVER the fence in YMCA Challenger wiffle ball. Landon tagged a beauty off of Coach Matt and sailed it over the left center fence. Well done, and congratuations! What a way to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of YMCA Challenger baseball!!

I have some news to share......................

Our friend and beloved YMCA Challenger mom, Roselyn E. Turner, 67, passed away on May 13, 2026. She was a treasure to know, and a fierce, supportive mother and friend. Roselyn never missed a chance to sing praises and spread the word about the YMCA Challenger Program and it's volunteers, we will miss her tremendously, but what a wonderful reunion they are having.......❤️

Services for Roselyn will be held Friday, May 29 at Metropolitan Chruch, 2310 E. Linwood Blvd., KCMO 64109 10am visitation, service to follow. This date and location have been confirmed by her daughter, Connie; please keep her and the family in your hearts.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children on the autism spectrum. That is why this work matters so much.

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is proud to partner with FACE - Foundation for Autism Collaboration and Empowerment to expand access to adaptive swim lessons and water safety for neurodiverse swimmers. Through our Water Safety Initiative, children build confidence, independence, and life-saving skills in and around the water.

Because every child deserves to feel safe in the water.
