A foundation to honor the memory of Christy Henrich by encouraging healthful eating and positive bod

Christy Henrich, the daughter of Paul and Sandy Henrich of Independence, MO, passed away in a Kansas City hospital, at the age of 22, as a result of multiple organ failure brought on by anorexia and bulimia. Christy was a world-class gymnast and the first gymnast ever from the state of MO to compete at the Olympic Trials. Family and friends of Christy started the Foundation in an effort to help others learn from Christy's tragedy.

A glance at what we'll be diving into with Tammy:

In clients with a history of disordered eating, the lack of relational intimacy with their own bodies and nourishment choices are an integral part of the trauma-based experiences leading to an eating disorder. The scarcity of relational intimacy leads to relational hunger. Therefore, the lack of relational intimacy with the body itself and the food that sustains it can parallel the same trauma-based wounds, and the need for trauma-informed healing, that is part of eating disorder recovery. This presentation explores the partnership between nutrition and therapy using a bottom-up approach inherent to trauma-informed treatment.
