IN LOVING MEMORY OF DELIA CAPILI DELA CRUZ | 1949 – 2026

It is with sincere condolence that we inform you of the passing of Delia Capili Dela Cruz on October 10, 2026.

Delia was the embodiment of selfless love and kindness. She always put others first, making everyone she encountered feel welcomed, accepted, and cared for. Her warmth extended beyond her family to friends, relatives, and the wider Filipino-American community. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Delia was the beloved wife of Gerry Dela Cruz, devoted mother to Claudette Dela Cruz and Corina Barnes, both proud Sinag-Tala Alumni, and cherished Lola to Cooper, also a Sinag-Tala alumnus, Henry, and Theo. She is the daughter of Saturnino S. Capili and Roberta Cachula Capili, and loving sister to Corazon Capili, Norma Sanchez, Belen Mina, former FA-GKC President Lilia Bautista, and Mila Sadangsal. She was also a proud aunt to Sinag-Tala Alumni Robert Sanchez, Stephanie Mina, and Rosanna Paat, as well as former FA-GKC President Kevin Bautista, and great-aunt to Sinag-Tala Alumni Bryan Paat and his brothers, Bryden and Bryce.

Through these family connections, Delia’s ties to Sinag-Tala and the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City (FA-GKC) reflected the enduring bonds of family, fellowship, service, and cultural pride that strengthen our community.

Behind Delia’s gentle warmth was remarkable strength and resilience. Through life’s challenges, she remained devoted to her family, exemplifying generosity, perseverance, and the importance of caring for one another. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled: love wholeheartedly, work hard, cherish family, and always be there for one another. As loved ones continue to gather, share meals, and laugh together, her love will endure for generations.

The FA-GKC community extends its heartfelt condolences to Gerry, her family, and all who mourn her passing. We honor Delia’s life and the lasting impact of her kindness, love, and generosity. May she rest in eternal peace.

Please keep Delia, her family, relatives, and longtime friends in your thoughts and prayers.

We’re starting October with two events at the Cultural Center! Join us for our Monthly Meeting on Friday, October 2, followed by Pinoy Breakfast on Saturday morning, October 3. Both take place at 9810 W. 79th St. in Overland Park.

Friday’s meeting is free and open to the public. It’s a potluck, so feel free to bring a dish to share, but it’s not required.

Saturday’s popular Pinoy Breakfast fundraiser features garlic fried rice, longanisa or tocino, a sunny-side-up egg, and fruit and veggies on the side. Want both meats? A combo platter will be available, too. We’ll share pricing soon.

You can also pick up sweets and other goodies à la carte. Coffee and Tang will be available!
