We were absolutely honored to have Kar Woo, founder of Artists Helping The Homeless join our ⭐Golden Years Story Circle⭐ today to share his story of immigrating from Hong Kong to the United States at the age of 19 and establishing Artists Helping the Homeless in 2008 which ultimately led to impacting the lives and improving access to resources and wraparound supports for thousands of our homeless neighbors in Kansas City. ❤️

Fun fact: Even though he has given many talks in English before, today was Kar Woo's first time sharing about Artists Helping The Homeless in Chinese! 😃

His story, heart, compassion and empathy has truly inspired the Chinese-speaking seniors at Fountain of Life. ❤️ One of the seniors shared that she took a day off work just to come hear Kar Woo share his story!

Dear friends, Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 🎉

We are delighted to share that Fountain of Life has acquired a 7-passenger minivan (2016 Toyota Sienna). We extend our deepest gratitude to the George H. Nettleton Foundation for a $25,000 transportation grant covering the purchase price and insurance, and to an anonymous donor for giving $5,000 to support future vehicle maintenance and fuel costs.

Special sincere thanks to our amazing multi-state volunteer transportation committee—Catherine Lee, Josh Lee, Dennis Mak, Steven Mak, Scott Pao, and Brian Tung—for providing vehicle purchase consultation as well as assisting with test driving!

A big shout out also to Mauricio Garcia from CarMax Merriam for his support throughout the purchasing process!

Fountain of Life's minivan will be used to:
💖Make home companionship visits to seniors with limited mobility, disability and other special health circumstances
💖Provide seniors rides to and from Fountain of Life's activities
💖Deliver culturally-authentic hot meals to seniors facing food access challenges
💖Provide seniors transportation to medical appointments, social service appointments, and grocery stores
💖And more!

Our leadership team dreamed of purchasing a vehicle for these purposes years ago. ⭐

We are truly overwhelmed with gratitude to see this dream come to fruition thanks to the love, compassion and generosity of many community members! ❤️❤️❤️

Wow!! ❤️❤️❤️

We are so grateful to staff and patrons of Chicken N Pickle - Overland Park who raised $1,121.78 for Fountain of Life during the month of March! 😍

This generous contribution was comprised of funds from a Community Giveback Night held on🍀 March 17th 🍀 where 10% of all evening food and beverage 🍗🥒 proceeds were set aside for charity *AND* CNP's March Cup Campaign through which 25 cents from every fountain drink🥤sold during the month were set aside for charity! ❤️⛲

Special shout out to Fountain of Life's co-founder Rebecca as well as Nancy, an active senior participant, who went to accept the donation check!

Thank you The Kansas City Star for capturing Fountain of Life's work to meet the health and wellness needs of limited English proficient Asian seniors and their families living in Greater Kansas City. ❤️⛲

This month, Fountain of Life celebrates 4 years of service to the local senior community -- offering culturally tailored and linguistically accessible social & civic engagement opportunities, healthcare navigation & access, and mental health supports.

Engagement programs are offered in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hmong and Korean.

🚐On Wednesday June 3rd, 35 seniors enjoyed a Day Trip to Lawrence, KS! We visited the Spencer Museum of Art and the Natural History Museum both located on the campus of the University of Kansas (KU).

🖼️🎨At the Spencer Museum of Art, seniors enjoyed a docent guided private tour conducted in Mandarin of three special art exhibits:
🎏Street Nihonga--The Art of Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani
⚱️Form & Flux--Contemporary East Asian Ceramics
🪵Brush, Block & Blood--Three Generations of Yoshida Women Printmakers

At the Natural History Museum, seniors enjoyed a self-paced tour experience 🦖🦅utilizing scavenger hunt checklists that had been translated into Chinese.

Everyone also enjoyed eating lunch together at the KU Student Union. The field trip was especially meaningful to seniors with Lawrence roots and those with children or grandchildren who graduated from or are currently attending KU! 🌻

After the field trip, a couple seniors shared these reflections:

"今天有一豐富Lawrence之旅。藝術圖畫、和4千600百萬年前巨大駱駝標本。博物管藏有許多不可思議「精英們」的作品…不虛此行。(Today was an enriching Lawrence tour. There were art pieces and a specimen of a massive camel from 46 million years ago. The museum’s collection features many incredible works by elite artists. It was a worthwhile visit.)"

"今天Lawrence之旅好豐富，有藝術，有自然历史博物馆，還有跟朋友們聊天分享有趣的時光。(Today’s trip to Lawrence was incredibly enriching. We had the opportunity to explore art, visit a natural history museum, and enjoy some delightful conversations with friends.)"
