The Friends of the Overbrook want to give everyone a great big thank you for the great turnout this evening for the soup supper, auction and raffle. We had some great food and non-food items to offer and you all stepped up for that. We hope you all had plenty of soup and cinnamon rolls to fill you up, and fun waiting to see if you won the auction items or the raffle. I saw some pretty excited youngsters getting the items they bid on and especially having the winning tickets pulled for the raffles. Ok, maybe some adults won too, but it didn't appear to be quite as exciting. Thank you to all those who helped with setting up and putting away all the tables. It's a big task, but you made quick work of it, and it's very much appreciated.

SOUP SUPPER, AUCTION, RAFFLE AND KIDS FUN ON SATURDAY

Has it been as chaotic for you all this week too? There's so many things to do for this upcoming event the Friends are putting on for everyone on Saturday, just to make sure it's as enjoyable to everyone who comes as possible.

We got you covered for dinner!!! Come to the Community Room at the Overbrook Library starting at 5:30pm and let us feed you delicious soup. Several different kinds of soups are being made, (and I heard Joanna Brady from the Sunflower Bakery is going to make some cinnamon rolls for us that always go good with the chili!)

HEY FRIENDS!!! Someone IS making chili, right???

I'm bringing the Creamy Pepperoni Pizza Soup I made last year. I'm pretty sure everyone liked that (as does my family). But I always try a few bites of more than 1 soup - because it's allowed (as long as someone dips it for you).

1. And don't forget the kids activities.

2. And the silent auction, which this year will not be limited to desserts (but there will definitely be those delicious food items). So make your auction bids on items you want to take home with you. But be prepared for a little competition when the big voice of Mr. Don Schultz starts finalizing the winning bids.

3. And a RAFFLE! we have some "baskets or boxes or ?" filled with awesome things for the family (which may include pets too), so I'm sure there will be something you and your family will want to win.

Buy your raffle tickets for $1 each, or 6 for $5. Then put one half of your tickets in the containers for each raffle item (or stuff them all into one for better chances), keep your fingers crossed to win, and stay to see if your ticket is pulled. We won't have names, just ticket numbers, so be sure to hold onto your ticket stubs. We wish everyone luck for the raffles, but I often hope the people who always seem to win at BINGO when I'm SOO close, don't feel the need to take one home.

Soup is served starting at 5:30 pm tomorrow night (Saturday March 7) and it's all prepared and served with love for our community, our library, and your enjoyment. Your good-will offering goes to support your Overbrook Public Library. Tell your friends, bring the kids, and the neighbors, and treat your parents to a night out with the family without busting the budget.

We hope to see you all there. We do this to support the Library, but we couldn't do it without you! Don't forget that the library is there for YOU, so use it!

Stay tuned as the Friends meet to discuss upcoming events and activities for 2026. I've already made a change to the information about the Soup Supper, as we are still planning a dessert auction, but may be changing things up from prior years. (I heard there will be more of the pizza soup again). And remember, the soup supper is offered at no cost to those who attend, but a free will donation will be accepted. The only out of pocket expense would be any bids you offer and win for the desserts and other items offered for bid. As always, the Friends are a non-profit volunteer program that raises funds for the Overbrook Library's programming, books & materials and other non-budget needs the library has. Thank you for supporting your local library.

Welcome to 2026! Here are the meeting dates for the Friends for 2026. Of course, there may be a need to add additional special meetings or some getting cancelled. But we will try to keep Facebook updated, so be sure to follow us on Facebook.

I also want to remind everyone that the library will take your good used donations of books and puzzles and games all year round. Just drop them off with the library during regular business hours. They ask that you don't leave these outside the library, as no weather-proof areas are available.

So here's the 2026 FOL meeting and event dates.

January 27 - regular meeting
February 24 - regular meeting with discussion of the upcoming March event
* March 7 - Annual Soup Supper and the return of the dessert auction (yea!) with some healthier choices to bid on. AND we are still considering adding a gift basket(s) into the mix of desserts as another option. The supper begins at 5:30 pm in the Community Room at the Library. More info to come regarding the event.
April 28 - regular meeting
June 23 - regular meeting
* July 23, 24 & 25th - Annual Book Sale in the Community Room
August 25 - regular meeting
October 27 - regular meeting

* Special events noted

Want to know more about how our community came together to support the annual book sale we had in July? And what, if anything, we need to think about for next year's sale?

Want to find out how you can help the Friends group with ideas, projects, fund raising thoughts, volunteering in big or small ways throughout the year?

Drop in to our upcoming meeting in the conference room at the library on Tuesday, August 26 at 6 pm. Meetings are open to the public. Hope to see you there.

This year's book sale is ending TODAY!! At 1 PM. it's still bag day sales, so hurry over to the Overbrook Library community room and load up! The volunteers are waiting to help you find things, and can give you a paper sack (or more) to fill up. How can you beat the prices while supporting the Friends who support the Library!
I saw a lot of great books that could be used in craft making or journaling too. So come on over before they lock the doors and start boxing up anything that's left. If you know of any organization that might be interested in leftover books or DVDs, let the volunteers know. Or if you represent one of those organizations, talk with them about donating certain items. Thanks again for supporting the Overbrook Library fundraiser by their Friends Group.

Are you excited for tomorrow?? It's the first day of the Annual Book Sale presented by the Friends of the Overbrook Public Library.
We've waited all year, collected loads of books, DVDs & CDs, jigsaw puzzles, and more. Get the best selection on Thursday at full prices (still very cheap). Then come back Friday and Saturday with your bags, and pay just $5 for each bag full of great books.
Doors open Thursday at 10am and will close at 7pm. Then Friday hours are 10am to 6pm. And Saturday they'll start at 9am and close at 1pm.
So don't miss your opportunity to pick up some great items while you support the Friends of the Overbrook Public Library's fund raiser for programming, books and other needs of the Overbrook Library.
We will also have Membership applications available if you want to join or renew your membership while you're there. Thank you for your support!!
