An urgent call to action for all canyoneers, it is time to gather together, get on our phones, and call our Senators.

Senate Republicans have drafted a budget bill that designates 250 million acres of our public land as eligible for sale. The bill would mandate the sale of 2-3 million of those acres within a 5-year period. Take note…hundreds, probably thousands, of canyons are located on lands going up for grabs with the proposed bill being voted on.

Map of areas proposed for sale off:

https://outdooralliance.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/basic/index.html?appid=f79f69111f844dd2be659da8ce0f4b6e

This budget bill isn’t just about gutting access to our public lands, but it also will affect our shared, collective environment. It allows fast track access to fracking, logging, oil and gas exploration and uranium mining even close to our National Parks, Monuments, and Wilderness. This bill will also allow developers to bypass critical environmental review of projects and public input by simply paying a fee. This bill rescinds funding for trails, conservation, and so much more.

This is the tip of the iceberg. Canyoneers, it is time to get on our phones and flood our Senators with phone calls.

Flood the phones! Make our voices heard. Say no to taking our public lands away from us and into the hands of the highest bidders who want to capitalize off our environment.

Script Idea:
Hello, my name is (insert name), and I am a canyoneer from (insert state). Selling off our public lands for housing and development doesn’t solve a crisis for those in need; it sells our future to the highest bidder. Keep America Free and Wild! Let us roam on our public lands; we own these lands as a collective community, and once this act is done, it cannot be undone. As a canyoneer, American, and collective owner of these public lands, we ask you to vote NO to the upcoming bill. Keep public land in public hands.

You can locate your senator's phone, email, and mailing address by following this link: https://www.congress.gov/members?q=%7B%22congress%22%3A119%7D

There is no time to waste; flood the phones. Call, email, and do it again. If this bill passes, the sale of this land is irreversible. Take time today to save our land together.

Hazards of Canyoning In Swift Water Environments
Thursday October 10 at 6pm Pacific / 9pm East Coast

The Coalition of American Canyoneers invites you to a free Zoom event to learn to recognize the hazards of canyoning in swift water (Class C) environments.

It’s been a tragic year for fatalities in canyons with running water. Looking back even further over the last 10 years, there have been repeated canyon fatalities associated with swift water. There are few class C canyons on the Colorado Plateau, and as a result, most local canyoneers have little experience in recognizing the hazards of canyoning in swift water environments. This Zoom event is designed to educate the community to recognize these hazards so dangerous situations can be avoided. As always, professional training is strongly suggested if you decide to recreate in Class C canyons.

Please join Andrew Humphreys of V7 Academy and Brent Roth of Kraken Whitewater, two seasoned Class C canyon instructors, to learn how to spot hazards in Class C canyon environments on a free Zoom hosted by the Coalition of American Canyoneers. Everyone is welcome but capacity is limited to the first 100 people to join.

Back In The Day: Middle Echo WAS a fun, scenic, straightforward ‘beginner’ canyon when accessed from the Weeping Rock Shuttle stop. That trail has been closed for a while, and will for another long while. Middle Echo is now accessed from the top, from Stave Springs trailhead, and should not Tom....
