Join in on the fun and help us name the new fire rescue authority in Ouray County! The survey is open until June 4 - after that, we'll tally the results and choose a name!

ICYMI: Ouray County is considering a joint, unified Fire and EMS Authority (Fire Rescue Authority) that would bring the five fire districts and Ouray County EMS together under one operating organization — producing faster response, 24/7 staffing, modern equipment, and better grant access, without raising any taxes when the Authority is formed.

Red Flag Warning - May 16, 2026.

Ouray County Sheriff:

Red Flag Warning in effect from Noon to 8PM Saturday, May 16.

No burning is allowed on Red Flag Days or Fire Weather Watch Days.

*WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...10 to 15 percent.

* IMPACTS...Fires will catch and spread quickly.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
________________________

🚒🔥 Firefighter Friday: Meet Justin Clark 🔥🚒

Born and raised in Ouray, Justin has spent his life exploring these mountains… dirt biking, hiking, and off roading. He has been a member of the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department for the past 5 years and is proud to serve and protect the community he’s always called home.

For Justin, being part of OVFD is about more than just responding to calls, it’s about the team. The camaraderie, the brotherhood, and working together to protect Ouray and everyone in it.

Justin and his wife Abby are now raising their son Jett here in Ouray, and he loves having his family involved in department events, fundraisers, and community outreach.

Thank you, Justin, for your dedication to OVFD and the community you’ve grown up in and continue to serve. 👏🔥
