Yes, the weather definitely sets your agenda this time of year. But, there are plenty of places to explore. Get out your maps and plan your adventures.

The mountains make the schedule now.

October in the San Juans is when fall roads begin turning into winter roads, sometimes overnight.

Golden aspens below. Snow returning to the high country. Quiet trails. Big skies. And a landscape that can look completely different by afternoon.

That’s part of the adventure.

Take the long way when conditions allow, check current road and weather conditions before heading into the high country, and never force the day when the mountains say otherwise.
