Last week, Ad Astra Advocacy Center’s Executive Director, Skylor Yeager, traveled to Washington, D.C., to receive an Angels in Adoption award! 🌟

The Angels in Adoption program, led by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, recognizes individuals and organizations making a difference in adoption, foster care, and child welfare. It celebrates those working to help children grow up safe, supported, and loved.

Ad Astra was recommended for this recognition by Representative Sharice Davids, and we are grateful for her support of our work with children and families.

This honor reflects the dedication of our staff, board, community partners, and supporters who help make our mission possible. We are proud to be part of a community committed to protecting children, fostering healing, and restoring hope. 💜

Help us keep our snack shelves stocked for the kids at Ad Astra! 💛

Children and families may spend several hours with us during forensic interviews, therapy appointments, advocacy meetings, and other services. Having familiar snacks and drinks available is one small way we can help them feel comfortable, cared for, and safe.

We are currently accepting donations of individually packaged snacks and drinks, including:

⭐ Granola bars
⭐ Crackers and chips
⭐ Fruit snacks
⭐ Applesauce pouches
⭐ Cookies
⭐ Juice boxes and bottled water
⭐ Other kid-friendly, individually packaged items

Ad Astra staff is in Kansas City this week at the Kansas Leadership Center!

A huge thank you to Children's Advocacy Centers of Kansas for giving our entire staff the opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen our leadership together.

One of the biggest lessons we’re taking with us: Everyone can lead.

Leadership isn’t about a title or position—it’s about recognizing our strengths, using our voices, and working together to create meaningful change.

We’re excited to discover more about our individual strengths, learn how we can better lead alongside one another, and bring what we learn back to the children, families, and communities we serve.

We’re so excited to be working to remove barriers for children and families in Miami County. Every child deserves access to equitable, compassionate services when they experience abuse or neglect — regardless of where they live or what resources their family has.

82 kids. In the past year, Ad Astra has served 82 kids.

📍 60% from Franklin County
📍 29% from Miami County
📍 11% from surrounding counties

Behind every number is a child who needed to be heard, supported, and connected to services.

We also know there have been children who needed these services but couldn't access them close to home because the resources simply weren't available.

That's why opening our Miami County office means so much.

We're growing so that more children can receive the support they need — closer to home, when they need it most.

What started as a vision is now a reality, and we're just getting started.

We can't change what happened. But we can change what happens next.💫

We are thrilled to announce that Representative Sharice Davids nominated Ad Astra Advocacy Center for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s Angels in Adoption® program—and we have officially been selected as an honoree!

Despite its name, Angels in Adoption recognizes more than adoption-related work. The program also celebrates individuals and organizations that strengthen child welfare and improve the lives of vulnerable children and families.

This nomination recognizes Ad Astra’s commitment to providing children impacted by abuse and trauma with a safe place to be heard, coordinated support, and opportunities for healing.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Representative Davids for recognizing the importance of Child Advocacy Centers and the difference coordinated, child-focused services make in rural communities.

We are honored to represent our communities through this national recognition—and we remain committed to ensuring every child who comes through our doors is met with compassion, support, and hope.

🔨 We’re Growing—and We Need Your Help!🔨

Ad Astra Advocacy Center is quickly outgrowing our current space as we continue expanding services for children and families in our community. To create the additional rooms we need, we are looking for volunteers with construction or carpentry experience to help us build interior walls at our Ottawa location.

If you are a contractor, construction professional, skilled volunteer, or local business willing to donate time, labor, or materials, we would be incredibly grateful for your support!
