Old Engine Co. #8

Old Engine Co. #8 Old Engine #8 was the first gasoline pumper purchased by the City of Ottawa on December 17, 1930.

The organization aids to maintain the restoration of Old Engine #8 and provide for other opportunities for the community and organization. Mission: Old Engine #8 was established to: 1) Facilitate the restoration of antique fire equipment to honor Ottawa's Past 2) To promote fire safety through community involvement 3) to enable to "Old #8" members to assist any members of the Ottawa community as we see fit and are able to do!

Article IV. Fireworks

9-401. Definitions.
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
Fireworks- means and includes any combustible or explosive composition of any substance, or combination of substances, or any article prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation, and shall include blank cartridges, toy pistols, toy cannons, toy canes, or toy guns in which explosives are used; any type of balloons which require fire underneath to propel them; firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, d**o bombs, sparklers or any other fireworks of like construction, or any fireworks containing any explosive or flammable compound; or any tablets or any device containing any explosive substance. Nothing in this article shall be construed as applying to toy paper caps and cap guns, and to the manufacture, storage, sale or use of safety or signal flares, nor as prohibiting the sale and use of blank cartridges for ceremonial, theatrical or athletic events, nor as prohibiting the firing of skyrockets or missiles when produced by a science instructor, and when the place of firing the skyrocket or missile has been approved by the Fire Chief or his designee.

9-402. Sale, etc., prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any person to expose or keep for sale or sell or barter or give away any fireworks within the corporate limits of the City.

9-403. Discharge or possession prohibited; exception.
The discharge, firing, possession or igniting of fireworks within the corporate limits of the City is hereby prohibited; provided, that the Board of Commissioners may grant permission for the public display of fireworks by responsible persons. Such display shall be of such character and so located, discharged and fired as shall not be hazardous to surrounding property or endanger any person.

9-404. Penalty for violation of article.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this article shall be deemed guilty of a Class C misdemeanor.

It is almost time to spring forward. Remember there is no better time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. If they are greater than 10 years old they need to be replaced. If you cannot afford smoke alarms they can be picked up at the fire station!
