Rotarians at work!!

Today our club helped fit the second graders in USD 290 with new bicycle helmets. Thanks to the Ottawa Recreation Commission for inviting us to participate each year!

Due to the tornado that impacted our community last evening, we will cancel today’s Rotary meeting. Our hearts are with everyone affected, and we ask that you keep our neighbors in your prayers.

We will reschedule our speaker and the collection for Ad Astra Advocacy Center to a later date.

Life comes to us on a Tuesday, and this past Tuesday we were able to hear from Mr. Rotary himself, Wade Hepner.

Wade, thank you for sharing your heart with us. For sharing the three principles that are important in how you lead your life. And for challenging us so to discover what it means to be our true authentic selves.

The energy at today’s Ottawa Rotary Club meeting was off the charts! 🙌

We were thrilled to welcome the Ottawa Area Young Professionals, and their enthusiasm brought such a fun spark to the room. There were SO many Happy Dollars shared, and even after the meeting wrapped up, people stuck around to keep the conversations going, always a sign of a great Rotary lunch at PrimeTime Grille!

A big thank you to the Ottawa Library - Kansas staff for being our presenters and sharing all about this year’s O-Town Reads selection, The Midnight Library. 📚 We appreciate the work you do to bring our community together through reading!

We also celebrated some exciting news for Ryland and MaKayla! Congratulations again! 🎉

Today, members of the Ottawa Rotary Club had the opportunity to tour the Ottawa Power Plant and get a behind-the-scenes look at the history and daily operations that keep our community powered.

A huge thank you to Dave Hunsaker and Rocky Evans for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion for this essential community asset.

The Ottawa community is incredibly fortunate to have a locally owned utility, and the talented, dedicated employees who work every day to serve our city.

Last night was a proud one for the Ottawa community and the Ottawa Rotary Club!

We’re thrilled to celebrate Amy Carlson and Betty Birzer, two Rotarians recognized at the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet for their outstanding impact.

🌟 Horizon Award – Amy Carlson
This year’s Horizon Award was presented to Amy Carlson, Program Manager of the Ottawa Recreation Commission. In just a few years, Amy has become one of Ottawa and Franklin County’s most exciting emerging leaders. Her vision and follow-through have led to enhanced facilities, expanded programming, and creative partnerships that serve all ages, making recreation a true gateway to belonging, health, and fun in our community.

The 2025 Favorite Smile Award went to Betty Birzer of ReeceNichols Town & Country Realty Inc—and for good reason! For more than 40 years, Betty’s warmth and trademark smile have brightened Ottawa. Whether helping others find a place to call home, volunteering, or quietly lifting people up, her joy is contagious and makes our community feel like home.

Today, the Ottawa Rotary Club had the chance to tour the newly opened 80's Flashback Arcade at 209 W. 2nd Street in Ottawa, and what a blast from the past it was! A huge thank you to owner Shawn Markley for welcoming us, sharing the rich history of the building and giving us a tour of the fabulous space!

With over 90 arcade games, awesome memorabilia, and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, this place is packed with nostalgia and excitement. It’s a perfect spot for birthday parties, private events, or just a fun outing for the whole family.

Yesterday at our weekly meeting we heard from KOFO Radio Owner, Brad Howard. Brad spoke about the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. The Act is a bipartisan proposal in Congress that would require all new vehicles sold in the U.S. to include free access to AM radio.

We’re fortunate to have such a strong partner in KOFO. From covering local news, local to national sports, keeping us safe during severe weather AND playing country music for years ago to today, our community is better for having a locally owned radio station.
