June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.
Trauma and violence can complicate the lives of boys and men who have been taught to bottle up their emotions and“tough it out”.
Acknowledging your mental health is not a sign of weakness-but an act of courage. Strength is having the vulnerability to heal, and that includes destigmatizing the process of seeking treatment and support after violence.
You don’t have to carry the weight alone. And it is always OK to ask for help.

If you or a loved one are navigating the aftermath of violence or trauma please check out our online resource survivor serieshttps://www.stacarecenter.org/_files/ugd/f98d71_53b731e1ee2d459fbbf632683f1e0aef.pdf

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026 our community is coming together to take a stand against s*xual violence by participating in Denim Day.

This global movement began in 1999 following a shocking Italian Supreme Court ruling that overturned a r**e conviction, arguing that because the survivor was wearing tight jeans she must've helped her attacker remove them. Women in the Italian parliament immediately protested by wearing jeans to work turning a symbol of victim blaming into a beacon for solidarity. Today, we wear denim to protest the misconception that what someone wears is an invitation or consent.

What started as a protest in Italy has grown into the longest running s*xual violence prevention campaign in history.

This Denim Day asks you to make a social statement with your fashion- to challenge victim-blaming, raise awareness during & support survivors

This Therapy Thursday, we are exploring the essential practice of establishing healthy boundaries.

Setting personal boundaries after a s*xual assault is difficult because the assault -a profound violation of autonomy- can alter the way your nervous system responds, and may cause you to remain in a hyper vigilant or dissociative state.

Healthy boundaries are guidelines that protect your mental, emotional, and physical energy, acting as filters that allow the right things in while keeping you safe. Setting boundaries is a form of self-care and helps to reduce burnout, reduce anxiety, and fosters more authentic, sustainable relationships. Without them, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, resentful, or lost in the needs of others.

Therapy Thursday: Reflections from the Couch — SAAM Special 🩵
In our work, we often see that the hardest step in healing from s*xual assault is simply taking the first step to break the silence. The shame that survivors may feel does not belong to them—it belongs to the person who caused the harm.
Throughout April for S*xual Assault Awareness Month, our "Reflections from the Couch" series will focus on:
🩵 Understanding the impacts of trauma.
🩵 Validating the nonlinear journey of healing.
🩵 Providing tools for coping with anxiety and trauma-related stress.
Therapy is not about "fixing" someone; it is about creating a safe, human-centered space to process pain and rebuild a life of joy and safety.
If you are a survivor or supporting one, know that you are not alone.
