The East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging will serve as the single, highly accessible, point of entry for older Kansans living in Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, Linn, Miami and Osage Counties, that are seeking help in maintaining their health, independence and dignity. In pursuit of healthy lifestyles and dignified self-sufficiency for the aging population, the East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging will corrdinate and provide varied programs and services, paid by federal, state, and local dollars, as well as client contributions and co-pays, and other grant/contract sources.

With Medicare Open Enrollment happening now, you may receive an increase in phone calls. Be aware that there are things that agents cannot do.

❌ For instance, agents cannot threaten to take away your benefits if you don't sign up for a plan.

❌ They also can't offer you any type of gift or incentive to sign up for their plan. If the person on the phone offers you a gift for switching or starts to threaten you, hang up and call the at 800.860.5260 and report it.

Are you starting to review your Medicare coverage for 2027? There is an online tool that can help you look up and compare plans in your area. http://medicare.gov/plan-compare

If you look these over and still aren't sure what the best plan is for you, pick up a worksheet from our office at 117 S Main, fill it out and turn it back in to be reviewed. We will review all of your info. and call you to set up an appointment to help.

If you are 60+ and enjoy a home-cooked meal, with cake and ice cream, PLEASE JOIN US! We will play bingo with prizes and will end our time with a cake raffle.

Did you know that the ECKAAA offers Medicare Open Enrollment appointments to help you navigate the changing rules and options with Medicare?

These appointments are for people who received an Annual Notice of Change to their current plan, who need help deciding what changes (if any) need to be made to their 2027 plan. Open Enrollment ( October 15 through December 7 ) is the only time you can change your plan.

What you need to do-
1. Fill out our Open Enrollment Worksheet
- You can pick one up at the ECKAAA office at 117 S. Main, Ottawa, KS
- Or you can pick one up at one of our satellite locations including the
Burlington Library, Garnett Library, Osage City Library, Overbrook Library,
Waverly Library, or at the Garnett Extension Office. Copies will be on site by
Monday, October 12th.

2. Return your completed Open Enrollment Worksheet
- You can drop off your COMPLETED worksheet in a SEALED envelope to the
ECKAAA office at 117 S. Main, Ottawa, KS
- Or you can drop off your COMPLETED worksheet in a SEALED envelope to the
same satellite location where you picked up your Worksheet

3. Wait for our call to set up your appointment
Once we receive your completed worksheet, a SHICK counselor will review your information and run a comparison of your Medicare Advantage plan or Part D prescription drug plan options for 2027. Once this has been reviewed, we will call you to set up an appointment (if needed) to walk through your options.

Tomorrow is our New to Medicare Seminar at 10am, in the offices of the ECKAAA at 117 S. Main in downtown Ottawa, Ks.

This seminar is for those who are thinking about retirement, those who are worried, confused, or overwhelmed with all of the Medicare choices and those who are not sure what to do yet.

We will discuss things like: Medicare Parts A and B, choosing between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, considering enrolling in a Part D plan or Medigap and more.
