Sponsored from the beginning of their time in TUF by Northern Partners Cooperative
Moses and his wife Evelyn, TUF farmers from Nyabwina VSLA, got a loan from their VSLA.
Using the loan they rented a room in the center which they use to aggregate produce. They buy from farmers and collect the corn together with what they harvest and sell through the TUF network of buyers to get better income, TUF has to verify the grain quality first before he is linked to the buyer.
He is very happy with Volumes and quality from TUF farmers.

We are forever grateful for the 5th grade class at Grove Elementary in Bloomington! The class lead a school wide fundraiser for water systems that our TUF farmers will be rewarded with. The nearly $1450 will provide clean water systems for up to 30 families!

These will be presented this summer on the next work trip lead by Joe & Nathalie.

This amazing team of 5th grade teachers led their students into a lesson about water scarcity, it helped them understand in a very real way a very real need, and then they chose to make a difference. We are thankful for these very special teachers!

We want to share a note we received from one of AgriClubs. Please take pride in that your support has helped create this!

At the end of the term, excitement filled the gardens of the Rwengoro Early Farmers School Agriclub as pupils proudly harvested a rich variety of vegetables they had been tending for weeks. The cabbages were full and heavy, the cauliflower heads firm and white, the spinach lush and green, and the collards (sukumawiki) stood tall and healthy. These vegetables were not just crops, they were the result of the students’ hard work, teamwork, and the new agricultural skills they learned through the TUF Program.

As the pupils prepared to break off for the holidays, they carefully harvested the vegetables and carried them to the school kitchen this was their last harvest for the season. For many, this was the first time they had participated in producing food that directly contributed to their own school lunches. Their meals/lunches were fresher this term, more nutritious, and more diverse, and the children felt a strong sense of pride knowing they had grown the food themselves.

Even more exciting was the opportunity to take some vegetables home to share with their families. Pupils wrapped their spinach and sukumawiki with joy, eager to show their parents what they had accomplished. Many shared that they would use the holiday period to start small home gardens using the techniques they learned at school.

Through the TUF Program, agriculture has become more than just a subject—it has become a practical learning experience that strengthens nutrition, builds confidence, and equips young learners with lifelong skills. The program has demonstrated how school-based agriculture can contribute to better health, improved food security, and deeper engagement in learning.

We extend our deepest appreciation to our TUF partners whose support has made this transformation possible. Your investment in the TUF Program has not only improved the nutrition and well-being of learners but has also inspired a new generation of young farmers. Because of your commitment, the school gardens are thriving, and children are gaining practical knowledge that empowers them both in and out of the classroom.

Thank you for believing in the potential of these young learners. Your partnership continues to plant seeds of hope, skills, and opportunity—seeds that will grow into a brighter and more food-secure future for our communities.

On Saturday, 8th/11/2025, at Kyakanyemera in Rukunyu town council of Kamwenge District, The TUF Project has once again demonstrated its commitment to transforming the lives of smallholder maize farmers in Kamwenge District through the successful hosting of the Second Annual Meet-the-Buyer Event.

The event brought together over 300 smallholder maize farmers from 8 Farmer groups across Kahunge and Rukunyu town councils alongside Kamwenge district officials, agro-input dealers, seed companies, financial service providers, and grain buyers. This interactive platform created meaningful linkages between farmers and key market actors, enhancing trust, transparency, and market access for locally produced maize.

Farmers proudly showcased their progress , from adopting improved seeds and good agronomic practices to achieving higher yields and better grain quality. Buyers, in turn, expressed confidence in sourcing from organized farmer groups, while input dealers and financial institutions reaffirmed their commitment to supporting smallholders with accessible services and products.

This year’s second Meet-the-Buyer event stands as a powerful testimony to how collaboration, training, and market facilitation can unlock economic opportunities, strengthen farmer cooperatives, and promote inclusive growth in the agricultural sector in Kamwenge District

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our donor friends and partners for their unwavering support and investment in the TUF Project. Your continued partnership has made it possible for hundreds of smallholder farmers to access improved inputs, training, and reliable markets.

Your generosity and belief in our vision are driving real change, empowering rural communities, improving livelihoods, and building a stronger, more resilient agricultural future for Kamwenge District.

Thank you for walking this transformative journey with smallholder farmers.

At Kyabenda Primary School, learners are not only acquiring knowledge in the classroom but also building hands-on agricultural skills through the Transforming Ugandan Farmers (TUF) Project. Recently, the Agriclub learners engaged in practical training sessions on how to plant maize and vegetables for both food consumption and income generation.

The training sessions were lively and enjoyable experiences for the pupils. With guidance from the TUF trainer, the learners prepared nursery beds, seed beds, and planted corn and different vegetable varieties, and learned techniques for proper care and management. What made the activity special was that learners did not just hear about agriculture -they practiced it with their own hands. For many, this was the second season to actively participate in planting activities, and they expressed excitement and joy throughout the exercise.

This activity shaped young minds with practical skills that go beyond the classroom. The pupils are now motivated to grow vegetables not only for improved nutrition at school but also as a way of generating income to support school needs. By doing so, they are contributing to food security while also learning the values of teamwork, responsibility, and agribusiness at an early age.

The success of this activity would not have been possible without the unwavering support of TUF partners. Your financial and material assistance has enabled the school Agriclub to access seeds, tools, and learning materials that made this training both impactful and memorable. Because of your generosity, young learners at Kyabenda Primary School are gaining practical life skills and contributing to the goals of the TUF Project.

We are deeply grateful to you, TUF friends and partners, for walking this journey with young farmers. Your support continues to transform lives, nurture skills, and create a brighter future for the next generation. Together, we are proving that when you invest in children, you invest in the future of entire communities.
