Ottawa County, Ohio ARES W8OCC, The Amateur Radio Emergency Service Ottawa County, Ohio (ARESOC)

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES©) consists of licensed amateur radio operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) or any other local or national organization is eligible for membership in ARES and RACES.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service Ottawa County (ARESOC) is an organization of Amateur Radio operators licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The major purpose of the organization is to provide public service communications support for qualified organizations at the discretion of the ARESOC leadership.

2:40 PM Monday, March 9th | There is potential for severe weather across the region tomorrow with all hazards possible. A tornado or two are also possible with NW OH having a greater threat. Heavy rain is likely with flash flooding possible in thunderstorms.

A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible today ahead of a cold front. The timing will be 11 am to 5 pm with impacting NWOH early in that time window and NEOH/NWPA a little later. Forecast confidence for severe storms to develop has increased slightly since the previous update.
Damaging winds up to 60 mph is the main threat but there is a low threat for an isolated tornado or two.

This is a drill!!!!!
Members of OCARES are taking part in the nationwide Simulated Emergency Test 2025 today. The drill focuses on a solar flare that has taken down all cell networks and the Ohio MARCS system for public safety. You may hear us passing traffic and info on our primary frequency of 442.250. This is just a drill!
