Ottawa County, Ohio ARES W8OCC, The Amateur Radio Emergency Service Ottawa County, Ohio (ARESOC)

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES©) consists of licensed amateur radio operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) or any other local or national organization is eligible for membership in ARES and RACES.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service Ottawa County (ARESOC) is an organization of Amateur Radio operators licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The major purpose of the organization is to provide public service communications support for qualified organizations at the discretion of the ARESOC leadership.

Tomorrow is Field Day 2026! It’s a national event for ARES and other amateur Radio Groups to set up and showcase what we can do. Once again this year, we will be set up near Waterworks Park in Port Clinton Ohio. Look for the trailer with the 60 foot Mast. You can’t miss us. Please stop by and say hi and meet some of the volunteers that provide back up and disaster communications for Ottawa County, including storm spotting and relevant reports to the national weather service.

Today we take pause and reflect on all the blood that was shed for this great nation so that we might be free. We wouldn’t be here doing what we do without the tremendous sacrifice of so many.
