🚨 WOODBURY COUNTY BURN BAN – EFFECTIVE TODAY 🚨

A burn ban has been issued for several fire districts in Woodbury County, effective TODAY at 1:00 PM CST due to increased fire danger.

🚫 NO OPEN BURNING is allowed in the following districts:
Anthon, Correctionville, Cushing, Danbury, Moville, Oto, Pierson, Salix, Sergeant Bluff, and Sloan.

This includes burn barrels, brush piles, and recreational fires. Conditions are extremely dry and fires can spread fast.

🚜 FARMERS: If you’re able, please keep equipment hooked up and ready (disk/field cultivator/water tank, etc.) in case we need quick help stopping a field or grass fire. Do not self-dispatch—please wait for a request from Fire/Dispatch so we can keep everyone safe and coordinated.

If you have any question you can contact our Fire Chief, Jason Weber at 712.880.0024!

🚒 Thank you for helping us protect our community.

You might as well turn this sucker off!
all the fire departments in the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses. I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it. They are just excuses. We are all volunteers. We can when we can and we can’t when we can’t.
This is an incredible job you get paid for in ways that aren’t money. If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the VFD in your area. The hardest part, is walking through that station door the first time.
We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?
Every fire department across the country needs help.

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from Oto Fire & Rescue! 🧯
Today we’re thankful for our community, our volunteers, and the opportunity to serve Oto year-round.
As you gather with friends & family (and those delicious turkeys start cooking 👀), here’s a friendly reminder:

🔥 Deep Frying Turkeys? Please do it safely!
✔️ Always fry OUTSIDE and away from your house, deck, or garage
✔️ Make sure your turkey is completely thawed
✔️ Keep a fire extinguisher nearby
✔️ Never leave it unattended
✔️ Lower the turkey slowly into the pot

Every year, Thanksgiving is one of the leading days for home fires — and many involve turkey fryers. Let’s keep it joyful, safe, and emergency-free!

From all of us at Oto Fire:
✨ Have a warm, safe, and happy Thanksgiving! ✨

🔥 Winter Safety Reminder 🔥

With this cold snap settling in tonight, many of us are plugging in space heaters and firing up furnaces. Please take a minute to stay safe and warm:

SPACE HEATER SAFETY
•Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn (blankets, curtains, furniture).
•Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet — never into a power strip or extension cord.
•Turn them off before going to bed or leaving the room.

FURNACE & CARBON MONOXIDE SAFETY
•Make sure your furnace has been inspected or cleaned recently.
•Replace/clean your furnace filter — a dirty filter can cause overheating.
•Install a carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home, especially near sleeping areas.
•If your CO alarm goes off, get outside immediately and call 911.

Carbon monoxide is called the “silent killer” — it’s odorless, colorless, and deadly.
Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, and confusion.

We want everyone in our community to stay warm and safe this winter. If you have questions, need help, or ever feel unsure, we are here for you.

Stay safe❤️🔥

🚜🌾 Harvest Safety Reminder 🌾🚒

As harvest gets into full swing, let’s all do our part to keep our community safe:

✅ Please give farm equipment extra time and space on the roads. Slow down and be patient — farmers are working hard to feed us all and they have families to go home to.

✅ Farmers: whenever possible, keep discs and equipment hooked up and ready. Your cooperation helps us respond quickly when needed.

✅ In case of an emergency, don’t wait to call 911. The sooner we get the call, the faster we can respond. We can always turn around if we’re not needed.

🔥 And remember: fire risk is high during harvest. Keep fields and ditches clear of debris, check your equipment for sparks or hot spots, and carry extinguishers or water when possible. A quick call and quick action can make all the difference.

Let’s work together for a safe and successful harvest season!

🇺🇸Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the brave first responders who answered the call with courage and sacrifice. We remember the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and thousands of civilians who never made it back home that day. Their service, their sacrifice, and their legacy will never be forgotten.🇺🇸
