Mock Crash at Unatego Jr-Sr High
The Unatego SADD club has been working with the Unadilla, Otego and Wells Bridge fire departments to put on a Mock crash demonstration the afternoon of May 22, 2024. A mock crash is designed to show students the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence. The mock crash will use real crashed vehicles that will be set up on school grounds. Student participants will act out roles as crash victims. The High School students grades 9-12 will watch the demonstration and learn how emergency responders conduct rescue efforts in real-time.
Mock crashes are a dramatic presentation to educate the true consequences of drinking and driving. Students will see their friends and peers carried out in body bags, others being taken in an ambulance, life-net and another being handcuffed and taken to jail.
It will be a strong message that hopefully will influence their driving choices. After the mock crash, SADD will hold a debriefing to go over legal consequences of the accident, discuss the impact the accidents had on students, give resources to those who may need support, and to highlight the importance of making responsible decisions.
We are encouraging parents to talk with their teens about not making poor decisions to drink and drive. Below you will find some resources to help answer any questions that may come up.
