May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This month, let’s remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. A simple check-in, a kind word, or taking time to care for yourself can make a meaningful difference. Let’s continue building a community where support, compassion, and conversation help break the stigma around mental health. Richard S. Shineman Foundation

The Oswego County Food Security Alliance gathered again in April for our bi-monthly meeting.

This group is made up of the boots-on-the-ground: the people running our local food pantries, soup kitchens, and backpack programs.

What they're seeing across our community: the need is growing. New families—many who have never had to seek food support before—are walking through the doors. More individuals are navigating mental health challenges, more students are disconnected from family support, and an increasing strain on volunteers.

And yet… amidst all of this, there is something incredibly powerful that is being shared.

Gratitude. 😍

So much gratitude from those being served and reminds you why this work matters so deeply.

We see you, Oswego County—the immense heart of this community is undeniable. This is what it looks like when people show up for one another, even in the hardest moments. We got this!

As Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to a close, this is not the end—it’s a call for action.
Child abuse is preventable and we much choose to act. The Richard S. Shineman Foundation stands with the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County and our community partners—but real change requires all of us.

We cannot look away. We cannot assume someone else will handle it.

Every child in Oswego County deserves to grow up safe, supported, and free from harm. That means speaking up, investing in prevention, supporting families, and holding ourselves accountable as a community.

Let’s commit—together—to ending child abuse in Oswego County.
