Shineman Foundation is to become a “Catalyst for Change.” The Shineman Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Central New York by providing grants to not-for-profit organizations that will enhance our local community. As part of this, the Foundation seeks to build relationships with its partnering not-for-profits, allowing them to become more effective, and to build strong social bonds that will bring the community together.

At the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, we believe supporting children means more than preparing them for the future. It means protecting their right to experience childhood—and creating a community committed to their safety and well-being.

Science tells us that childhood experiences help shape the developing brain. Safe, stable relationships with caring adults can strengthen healthy development and help buffer children from the effects of stress. Play is equally important, supporting creativity, problem-solving, emotional regulation, social skills, and resilience.

In other words, children need what we sometimes overlook in our rush to prepare them for adulthood:

They need time and space to simply be children.

Time to play. Imagine. Explore. Be silly. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Rest. Feel safe. And know that the adults around them are looking out for them.

And that responsibility extends beyond individual families.

Children need an entire community committed to their safety—neighbors who pay attention, schools and organizations that create safe spaces, systems that support families before they reach a crisis, and communities willing to invest in prevention as much as intervention.

Childhood deserves its full season—and every child deserves a community committed to protecting it. ❤️

🌟 What a stupendous turnout for our FIRST-EVER public event! 🌟

We are incredibly grateful to all of the nonprofits, community partners, and community members who came out to join us. Your energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to our community made the day truly special. 💙

It truly was A Force of Love in action—bringing people together, making connections, and celebrating the amazing work happening throughout our community.

And while there was so much to celebrate, we have to admit that Ranger and River stole the show! 🐾❤️ These two sweet senior dogs are currently looking for their furever homes, and they certainly won plenty of hearts at the event.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated, stopped by, shared a conversation, and helped make our first public event such a wonderful success. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate community, connection, and the power of coming together.

What a day—and what a Force of Love! 💕

❤️ WHY WE CARE.

Behind every nonprofit is a story.

A neighbor who needed a helping hand.
A child who needed someone to believe in them.
A family searching for hope.
A community coming together to make something better.

And behind those stories are people who choose, every single day, to care.

As we count down to A Force of Love: A Community Celebration, we’re taking a moment to remember what this celebration is really about.

It’s about the people.
The connections.
The compassion.
The countless acts of service—big and small—that ripple across our community every day.

🎥 Watch our video and hear why we care.

Because when people who care come together, they become something powerful.

They become A Force of Love. ❤️ Richard S. Shineman Foundation
