Charlotte's Big Dream/ Reading for Rescue

Charlotte's Big Dream/ Reading for Rescue Rescued and paying it forward. Proceeds from the sale of the books are donated to the rescue that saved their lives.

Reading for Rescue is a program started in 2013 by PAOC members Connie Evans and Marjorie Wenworth. Working ith Tails and Tales Publishing, Connie and Margie collaborated to write children's books that were both fun and educational. The program has come a long way with 4 books total and a few furry mascots who help promote their stories. Charlotte and Sawyer each have their own book with June Bug'

s story soon to be told. All of the dogs featured in the books are former PAOC fosters who have been adopted into loving forever homes. The authors and their subjects can often be found doing readings for schools, librairies, girl & boy scout troops, and anywhere else kids can be found. The proceeds for all of the book sales benefit PAOC and the fosters in their care.

After our consultation this afternoon the surgeon wants to wait a few weeks. We headed home and will head back in a few weeks. Thank goodness she loves to ride. Thank you for all the well wishes. A long but good day.

Today, Duck and I are heading to Tuft’s University in Boston for what we hope will be her last surgical procedure. As we set out, we are without our loyal friend and traveling companion, Charlotte. Duck and I are learning to navigate the world without our Charlotte. Fortunately, she has left us with a wealth of wonderful memories and enough love to inspire us every day. Please join me in wishing Duck success today.

Happy first birthday Duck. The newest member of the family.

Charlotte has earned her wings, and the three Reading For Rescue dogs are together once again. For thirteen years, she was my faithful sidekick. Whether we were on our way to work or transporting dogs to various rescues all over New York, she was always happy to ride shotgun. Her calm presence always helped soothe nervous dogs. One of her last acts of compassion was to comfort an anxious puppy going to Boston for a medical procedure. Charlotte had many jobs but the one she excelled at the most was that of therapy dog. Together with her trusted companions Sawyer and Harper, they visited libraries and schools, sharing their stories. Patiently sitting for hours as we read their books. She loved visiting nursing homes and hospitals, gently helping to relieve loneliness and anxiety. Life was easier with her calm presence by my side. There were so many days at work that I would glance over at her curled up happily snoring away, and I would wonder if she remembered the neglect and harsh treatment before we found each other. All I can say is, if she did, she never let it show. She greeted each day with enthusiasm and each new person as a friend. As Charlotte’s extraordinary journey comes full circle, she leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. It is my hope that her story will help shed light on the plight of homeless animals in our community and inspire the next generation of animal lovers. I will be forever grateful for the love and support you showed to one little brindle pit bull that dared to dream big, and her mom. In the coming days, I will share photos and stories but for now, I must rest. Fly high, my sweet old lady. You are loved beyond measure. A special thank you to Jessica Allen for the beautiful artwork.
