Key Aspects of the Finnish Baby Box:
How it Works:

Created to promote child health, offer support regardless of socioeconomic background, and ensure a safe, equal start in life.

Contents: The box includes around 50 items, including a high-quality mattress, bodysuits, romper suits, leggings, a hooded bath towel, nail scissors, a toothbrush, a hairbrush, bath thermometer, cream, a sleeping bag, and a thick, insulated snowsuit for the Nordic winter.

Safety & Benefits: The cardboard box acts as a safe, portable sleeping space, which can reduce risks associated with co-sleeping.

The program is credited with helping reduce Finland's infant mortality rate.

Availability: While primarily for residents of Finland, some private, similar "baby box" initiatives have been created elsewhere, but the official government package is part of the Finnish social security system.

I'm thrilled to share that attending the FRC Family Resource Center Gala last week was a highlight, connecting with incredible individuals dedicated to supporting our community, and planting seeds for positive change. The concept of A Port City Baby Box, inspired by Finland's innovative program, is gaining momentum, with promising discussions at a recent town hall meeting that left me encouraged about its potential.
Following a productive visit to Metro Mattress, we're moving forward with plans for a collaborative effort that brings us closer to providing essential support to our community's families.

As First Cradle Oswego continues to evolve, I invite like-minded individuals to join our journey and share our mission with friends and family who may be eager to lend their support.

This morning scrolling I saw a post. I stopped because I saw a baby in a box with a wardrobe and thought to myself, if it was only that easy to get these little people. 😂

Then I thought let me share it in the group “You know you are from Oswego If..” It really seems like a great idea.

I had been looking for a cause that I could get behind that was joyful and purposeful.

Three hours later I notice interest and I decided to create this page so, we can have it all come together in a space just for this project.

If you are here consider joining us get this off to a good start, because we all know one thing to be true and that is that it really does take a village.
