Compost Give Back Day is back!

Join us at Cedar Lane Park on Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th. We’ll be handing out compost from 9 am – 12 pm (Friday) and 9a-3pm (Saturday). Your food scraps make this possible. Keep up the good, green work! The event is open to those who participate in our Food Scraps Program sponsored by the Town of Ossining.

All food scraps collected in the Town are now composted locally at Sustainable Materials Management, Inc. in Cortlandt Manor, which turns discarded food scraps into a safe and nutritious soil amendment for gardens, landscaping, and agricultural use. Participants must bring their own bucket (Max 6 gallons).

The Annual returns - in its 15th Year! - this Saturday, May 2nd.
In the annual day of service to the , pick one of 100+ locations to help clean-up. You will be guided by a leader and times of sweep sites will vary ...so do what works for you!

In Ossining, there are two sites: the Riverfront, and then one further in on the Sing Sing Kill (which connects directly with the Hudson River). You can find out more here: https://www.riverkeeper.org/sweep

In 2025 the removed 21 tons of trash from local waterways. Help us make an even bigger impact this year!

Thank you to all of the exhibitors and vendors that believed in the power of community and were able to attend the Festival - Rain or Shine...you made it.
A Festival is not successful because of any one person; it is often because of the efforts of many and we have many to be grateful for.

Our incredibly supportive Parks and Rec department is fundamental to the Festival and we have tremendous gratitude for the efforts that begin months ahead of the day-of.

Our municipal administrators are also fundamental to the support we receive and help facilitate much of the behind-the scenes process in a way that really make things run smoothly (and legally!), and we also have tremendous gratitude to the resources of the Ossining Police Department in ensuring that folks remained safe and people were kept informed about parking logistics.

To Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corp: thank you for always being at-the-ready (and thank goodness your services were not needed!)

But there is a whole other level of community that we have to thank:
*To our friends of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.., in Northern Westchester who show up ready to help every year at 6am. Somehow you raise the level of cheer under the stressful pre-Festival set-up hours, and then disappear before you even get to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
*To Here Coffee and Beer, who woke up extra early and delivered coffee at 6am for the set-up crew who desperately needed it.
*To John F. Kramer who year after year has provided us with Festival photos. And to Howard Rolls who is our trustworthy drum circle friend.
To Bridget Kenny, Ossining Union Free School Districtteacher and OHS Environmental Club Advisor who has been keeping that Club going and helping kids learn outside of the classroom.
*To the Ossining Boat & Canoe Club who has to deal with our annual shenanigans at the absolute worst time (striped bass season and prepping of the Club for the beginning of the season).
*To the Ossining Youth Bureau: what an incredible positive impact on our community. Incredibly responsive, committed and engaged!

And there were so many more who gave some of their time to fill in gaps. It all mattered and made a difference to the success of the event.
So from all of us, Thank You.

(p.s. please share any special photos that you may have captured with us here! We'd love to see them!)

EARTH DAY FESTIVAL: Transportation, Shuttle Bus and Parking ALERTS!

We don't want you to get frustrated before arriving, so we encourage you to walk down/cycle/board as the most eco-friendly, OR ride Metro North even from one station away for easy in and out access to the Ossining Train Station (festival location).

DO NOT expect to find public parking on the River side of the Ossining Train Station until after 6p on Saturday Night. Please warn anyone you know that might be affected that they should not park overnight (on Friday evening).

We have some handy public parking locations and a Shuttle Bus to Green Ossining's 16th Annual Earth Day Festival!

If you are driving, please park in one of the public lots and either walk or take our Karma Loop shuttle (courtesy of Ossining Recreation and Parks) which stops at the Rec Center lot and Market Square (Spring & Main Street) and will loop from Engel Park back to those locations throughout the day beginning at 11am.
Got an E-Bike? You can roll it into the Festival grounds and park it for free with our friends from Croton E-Bikes. You can find them at Spot #87.
Please do not attempt to park on the river side (West) of the Ossining Train station to avoid limited parking and potential traffic jams.

Below is a handy map that identifies public parking lots and the three Shuttle Bus stops - Engel Park, up Central Avenue to the Caputo Rec Center, to Market Square then back down Central Ave to Engel Park). Note that the Brandreth Lot ( #8 on the Map), is currently closed.

EARTH DAY FESTIVAL - PERFORMER PROFILE: Too Blue.
Traveling freely between the genres of bluegrass, swing, Celtic and jazz, a Too Blue performance is a dynamic dose of serious fun. Smooth harmonies and adventurous musicianship bring stellar arrangements to life and leave the listener anything but “blue”.

Their newest release, “Trouble With the Grey”, produced and engineered by Bob Harris of Ampersand Records, has received national radio airplay and enthusiastic reviews from Bluegrass Today and Bluegrass Unlimited.

Seamlessly blending their vocals are guitarist Betsy Rome and banjoist Joan Harrison. Mandolin powerhouse Michael Sassano astounds and entertains, while jazz bassist Jamie Doris brings a creative and unique perspective to the band. Together, Too Blue makes exciting bluegrass that swings and entertains.

EARTH DAY FESTIVAL - STAGE MUSICIAN - Fred Gillen Jr.

NYFA (New York Foundation For The Arts) grant recipient Gillen Jr has released 11 full-length albums, to great critical acclaim. He has performed all over the U.S. and Europe as a solo artist, his live performances are spontaneous and full of storytelling, and he enjoys audience participation.

He is equally comfortable playing at a theatre, festival, or museum, as at a farmers market, coffeehouse, or brewery.

His songs have been featured on ABC's "All My Children," NPR's "Car Talk," and CMJ's New Music Marathon Sampler.
From 2017 to 2019 he was music director of the group The Greenheart, traveling to Nepal four times and India once, performing concerts to raise awareness of environmental activism. In 2012 his version of Woody Guthrie's "I Ain't Got No Home" was featured on "Pete Remembers Woody," a collection of Pete Seeger's spoken stories about Woody Guthrie. interspersed with various artists' renditions of Guthrie's songs. Besides playing with his heroes like Pete, he’s opened for some great artists such as Merle Haggard, Todd Rundgren, and the David Bromberg Big Band.

In both his own songs and the songs he chooses to cover he incorporates elements of a huge swath of folk, rock, roots, and Americana music. Though he writes and sings songs which cover a huge variety of lyric topics, his overarching message is simple: “we are all in this together.”
