Our camp this week is only in Osprey because of the Youth National Championship but the rest of the summer we have them at both locations! Still room available and open to any youth entering 3-12 grades this fall! We teach them how to row well, have fun doing it and make great friends along the way!

Harrison Lee

Most memorable experience: "Freshman year, head of 941, bow seat of 4x, going through the back turns of Benderson. Neck and neck with a boat, need to turn to starboard. Yell to other boat, “turn to starboard!” Hear the other bow seat yell, “Hard on starboard!” Crash into rocks.

What he will miss most: Benderson. Not many people get to say they have rowed next to (and been coached by) Olympians.

Lesson learned from Crew: Find beauty in anything: It’s so easy to look at a 2 hour steady and groan that you have to do it, or you could enjoy being on the beautiful intracoastal, and be proud of the fact you got it done!

Areeb Lalani

Most memorable experience: The moments before the Girls Freshman eight race, where we had to go straight into finals. We had almost no idea how it would go, and the wind kept on acting against us. The moment we lined up, for 6 minutes, the wind died down, and we raced for gold. Finally crossing that finish line, one length ahead of everyone was one of my most memorable races.

What he will miss most: I'm going to miss all the coxswains, who have helped create a community where I could be supported, laugh, and be competitive all in one practice. I'm going to miss being able to look forward to working with coxswains on the water and on land, as well as being the support needed for my friends to get through a tough workout.

Lesson learned from Crew: Crew has taught me the value of showing up for others. No matter the outcome, what matters is showing up, ready to take on anything head on. If you can show up for your teammates, be the rock they need to get through something, then you've already built the foundation for progress.

Zinnia Kuipers

Most memorable experience: My most memorable experience would be doing pieces in the U17 8+ against the 2v. The U17 was one of the most fun I've had in rowing and being with those guys in a super competitive race made it even better.

What she will miss most: My friends.

Lesson learned from Crew: Crew has taught me how to have fun and work hard at the same time.

Will Koczan

Most memorable experience: My most memorable experience on Sarasota Crew was the last 250 meters at Regionals my junior year. Atlanta Juniors caught a crab, and in that moment, our whole boat felt a surge of power. We pushed harder than ever and powered our way to a gold medal. That moment didn’t just win us the race, it motivated us to keep pushing and train even harder for Nationals.

What he will miss most: I’ll miss the friendships the most. Since I joined Sarasota Crew, this team became more than just a team, it became a family. All the hard work, the early mornings, and the journey from Regionals to Youth Nationals my junior year… those are memories I’ll never forget.

Lesson learned from Crew: Crew has taught me that hard work really does pay off. Every early morning, every tough practice, and every race showed me that if you stay committed and push through, the results will come.

Anna Kim

Most memorable experience: Dancing with the WV8+ at Sweep States 2024 and winning Nationals 2023 with the U17 8+ (then Coach Hugo telling me he was retiring).

What she will miss most: Fixing a never-ending pile of footplates, pre-practice Coach Hunter and Coach Isaac chats, an insane amount of coxswain inside jokes, and the best friends I could ever ask for.

Lesson learned from Crew: Have the audacity to be brave, and that supporting some else's success will never take away from your own.

Simal Kideys

Most memorable experience: My most memorable Sarasota Crew experience was the bus ride to Georgia during Regionals 2025. It was the late bus as many of us had AP testing that morning. We took so many stops and were on the bus for over 12 hours. Even though the bus ride was exhausting and chaotic, it was filled with so much laughter and bonding.

What she will miss most: I will definitely miss laughing and joking around with my teammates the most. The inside jokes, clumsy moments, and constant laughter always made the tough workouts feel a little easier.

Lesson learned from Crew: Crew has taught me the power of discipline. Waking up at 2 am for regattas, staying up late finishing homework, and rushing from school to volunteering to practice. It taught me how to manage my time and still show up ready to give my all. Even when I felt exhausted, I learned that perseverance will always pay off.

Our first Summer Camp was lucky enough to get a visit from a bunch of National Team rowers today before they fly abroad to compete this summer (the national team rowers, not our campers…). We not only heard stories but were able to do some erging together (how low of a split can you pull?!), get some trading cards autographed and be inspired! You all have grown your always growing fan base—thank you! Good luck at World Cup!! We have more room available in our camps the rest of the summer. Come learn or row more with us!

Sydney Flamenbaum

Most memorable experience: My most memorable Sarasota Crew experience was competing at Sweep States 2025. Being out on the water with my teammates, putting together everything we had worked on all season, and finishing strong as a crew is something I’ll always remember.

What she will miss most: I will miss coming to practice every day and seeing my teammates, as well as the excitement of race days. The friendships and team environment are what made Crew so special to me.

Lesson learned from Crew: Crew has taught me how to persevere through challenges and stay committed even when things get demanding. It pushed me to manage my time, stay focused, and give my best effort no matter what was going on. Through it, I’ve learned that consistency, discipline, and teamwork lead to success both on and off the water.
