The SMART Social Project is an initiative of The Women’s Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation to build a healthier Oshkosh, online and off, through awareness and practical tools.

SMART Social stands for Social Media Awareness, Responsibility, and Tools, and its mission is to build a healthier Oshkosh, online and offline, by:
• Educating community members about the effects of social media and screens on health
• Providing resources for parents, educators, and kids to develop balanced technology habits
• Building community dialogue through events, workshops, and expert-led discussions
• Advocating for behavioral shifts that prioritize well-being in the digital age

The campaign, which runs through June, focuses on five digital themes negatively impacting brain development and mental health including: Addictive Behaviors (February), Misinformation (March), Sleep Deprivation (April), Social Comparison (May), Cyberbullying (June).

Each theme addresses digital behavior through education, resources, partnerships and community-wide events such as activity sponsored tech-free nights at local businesses in February and a community-wide PJ Day in April.

SMART represents five keys for using technology with intention: self-awareness, mindfulness, authenticity, responsibility and truth.
