In observance of Labor Day, the Clarke County Extension Office will be closed Monday, September 7.

We will reopen and resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8.

We wish everyone a safe, happy, and relaxing Labor Day! ❤️🤍💙

Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

🌟 4-H ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN! 🌟

Ready for a new year of Clarke County 4-H? Enrollment for the 2026–27 4-H year is officially OPEN! 🎉

Whether you're brand new to 4-H or returning for another great year, we would love to have you join us!

🐝 What is 4-H?
4-H is a youth development program where kids learn by doing! Members have opportunities to explore their interests, build leadership skills, make new friends, try new things, and gain valuable life skills through hands-on experiences.

🌱 Clover Kids: Kindergarten–3rd Grade
Clover Kids is a great way for our younger members to get involved, have fun, explore different projects, and learn what 4-H is all about!

🐄 4-H: 4th–12th Grade
Older youth can participate in a wide variety of projects and activities, develop leadership skills, attend events and camps, and work toward goals in the areas that interest them most.

💚 The best part? ALL Clarke County 4-H clubs have a Clover Kids club! So our youngest members can get involved right alongside our 4-H clubs.

Whether you're interested in animals, cooking, art, science, photography, woodworking, gardening, STEM, leadership, or something completely new- there's a place for you in 4-H!

📅 Enrollment is open now for the 2026–27 year!

If you're new to 4-H or have questions about which club might be the best fit for your family, reach out to the Clarke County Extension Office. We'd be happy to help you get started!

💚 Come grow with us in 4-H!🍀

📢 4-H Online Enrollment Opens September 1!

The new 4-H program year officially begins September 1, 2026, and we are excited to welcome new and returning members! Enrollment is completed through 4-H Online, where families can enroll, select projects, and register for programs and events.

💳 Important Payment Information

Credit card payments will NOT be available when enrollment opens on September 1. Please do not attempt to pay the amount shown in your 4-H Online account using a credit card.

Your 4-H Online account may show the full enrollment fee as an amount due. Please do not be concerned! Clarke County has generous sponsors who are covering all or a portion of the enrollment fees for families who enroll early. Because these sponsorships are processed through our office, the amount shown in 4-H Online may not reflect what you actually need to pay.

Clarke County Early Enrollment Fees — September 1–October 31, 2026:

* 🐝 Clover Kids (Grades K–3): $0
Enrollment fees are generously covered by the Clarke County Extension.

🍀 Returning 4-H Members (Grades 5–12): $0
Enrollment fees are generously covered by the Clarke County Extension and NEW Cooperative, Inc. Foundation.

🌱 New 4-H Members (Grades 4–12): $20
The Clarke County Extension will cover $20 of the $40 enrollment fee, leaving a $20 fee for the family.

These early enrollment discounts are available only through October 31, 2026.

Beginning November 1, 2026:

Clover Kids: $5
4-H Members: $40 for new and returning members

How to Pay

Payment should be made by cash or check. Please make checks payable to Clarke County ISU Extension and include your child's name in the memo line.

Payments can be:

Dropped off at the Clarke County Extension Office
Placed in the drop box outside the office if you are unable to come during office hours

Please note: Credit card payments will become available after October 31.

Please Do Not Pay the Full Amount Online

Because 4-H Online may initially display the full enrollment fee, it may look like you owe more than the amount listed above. Our office will apply the appropriate sponsorships/discounts to your enrollment fee.

If you choose to pay the amount shown online with a credit card once that option becomes available, we will not be able to refund the difference for sponsorships that should have been applied.

If you have questions about what you owe, please contact the Clarke County Extension Office before making a payment. We are happy to help!

📅 Important Dates

September 1, 2026: 4-H Online enrollment opens
October 31, 2026: Last day for early enrollment pricing and sponsored fees
November 1, 2026: Regular fees begin
May 15, 2027: Final enrollment deadline for participation in the Clarke County Fair

We never want finances to be a barrier to participating in 4-H. If you have questions or need assistance with enrollment or fees, please reach out to the Clarke County Extension Office at 641-342-3316. We are here to help you get started!

We can't wait to see what you’ll achieve in 4-H this year! 🍀

🎉 A Well-Deserved Recognition 🎉

Yesterday, Rick and Beth Oshel were officially inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair.

This honor reflects decades of dedication to Clarke County 4-H and the countless young people whose lives they have impacted through leadership, mentorship, volunteer service, and support of our livestock programs.

We are incredibly grateful for all they have done for Clarke County 4-H and are proud to see their commitment recognized at the state level.

Please help us congratulate Rick and Beth on this outstanding achievement! 💚🍀

Remember, the ways of record keeping have changed. you can make a video, create a
PowerPoint, organize a scrapbook, or put a binder together… the possibilities are endless.
Keep in mind, you have already done the work, now let’s show it off!
Keep in mind these items when recreating your 4-H experience:
The following link breaks down what is needed well with lists per species!
https://www.extension.iastate.edu/page/record-keeping
REQUIRED ITEMS:
- 4-H YEARLY SUMMARY: (4H-96) Can be found on the Extension Store. CLICK HERE.
On the yearly summary 4-H members keep track of 4-H events, talks and /or presentations
they gave, responsibilities they had at home, club, school, and community activities, and
recognitions received. This is also a good area to keep track of projects that were started
but not completed this year, which you hope to continue for next year.
- PROJECT FORMS: There are three levels of project records: Basic, Experienced, and
Advanced. It is the 4-H member’s choice what level they use. Members will complete one
form for each project area (not each individual project). These forms can be found here.
This form talks about what you have learned, and still want to learn throughout 4-H.
o There are specific forms for each type of livestock including:
 Beef
 Dairy (cattle and goats)
 Horses
 Pets
 Poultry
 Rabbits
 Sheep
 Swine
o THESE FINANCIAL FORMS ARE REQUIRED
 They can be found here. Just search for your species!
Photos and/or clippings are optional but add some to your project areas if you want. It’s
nice to be able to look back at your hard work over the years!
ORDER OF ITEMS:
- Title Page
o This includes your picture, name, address, age, club, years in 4-H and current 4-H
year (Ex. 2022-2023 4-H year)
- Table of Contents
o Optional but very helpful for the judges and yourself
 It can also be helpful to separate your different project areas out with divider tabs
- 4-H Yearly Summary
- General Photos and Clippings
o Could include:
 Write-ups from club meetings
 Fair results
 Photos from your 4-H year
 Newspaper clippings
o Photos and clippings are fun to look at and help tell your 4-H story. All of these
should be arranged neatly, and the captions should be readable.
o **Important** Photos and clippings relating to your projects should be placed with
the project records
