AND IT’S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OSCEOLA, IA, Part 2
And so, the opening of my eyes continued today, but in a couple of different directions, so I'll share it in a couple of parts tonight.
The day started with forklift operator, Jake, staging the Ga***rds that Facility Manager Rick and Volunteer JV had filled on Monday. It seemed to me it would take a couple of semis to take all he brought out, but not so.
About 10:30, Nancy drove in in her very large box truck. Now, on Monday, I kept hearing, "Will Nancy take that", "I think Nancy will take those", We'll put these in for Nancy". Well, I met the dynamo, Nancy.
She is a volunteer for the C.U.R.E. organization in Arkansas. She left home at 3:30am, they loaded her, and she will drive part way back today, then home tomorrow.
She's been coming to Osceola for 8 years now. I watched as our volunteers and employees loaded that truck. I don't know how many hospital beds, banana boxes, cases of PPE and miscellaneous medical equipment was loaded. I just know it was a lot. They worked steadily for 2 hours, in this heat and the truck and Nancy headed South.
As for final destination. much of it is currently going to the Ukraine. There was a recent bombing that created a serious need of medical supplies. She shared with me the list the folks from the Ukraine are needing and it is very, very long.
I will share with you photos of our crew loading the truck, as well as some photos Nancy has shared with me of the containers into which this equipment will be loaded for shipment oversears.
A note: last week, our folks picked up a $60,000 piece of equipment from a hospital which we sent to C.U.R.E. who in turn have shipped it on to the Ukraine.
Wow, and it was all a dream of Mike Sitzman and super wow, there are folks carrying on his dream, and all right here in Osceola, IA.

AND IT’S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OSCEOLA, IA
Boy were my eyes opened on Monday morning and I want to share some of what has been an awakening, and it is all happening in our small community right here in Southern Iowa. Imagine, an entire nation in need of mobility equipment because of Polio. Imagine what we are doing here will provide that equipment and hundreds of people will regain some mobility. I’m going to tell the story in short segments, because that’s how I am experiencing them. Cross Ministries does amazing work that goes worldwide.
This is segment 1. The journey started Monday, with the donations of every type of mobility equipment imaginable. I’m told those donations come from several sources. Hope Ministries, hospitals all over the Midwest, Easter Seals, The American Legion and of course, individuals that no longer need their equipment for whatever reason.
These donations are sometimes delivered to us and sometimes we send someone to pick them up. They are gathered in our medical equipment center and await distribution.
The photos below show what that looks like.
Then, folks like Cross Facilities Manager Rick and volunteer JV start to work. Their job is to sort and prepare for shipping all that has arrived.
It is here that I am going to insert a trivia question. I am known as the keeper of totally useless knowledge, and until today, I did not know this…so…what is a Ga***rd?
When I left, there was a Ga***rd of walkers, a Ga***rd of crutches and miscellaneous equipment.
Tomorrow, it’s my understanding that these items will be loaded into a trailer and taken to Project C.U.R.E. (https://projectcure.org.)
Just a note, did you know if you or someone you know, need any medical equipment, we have it and share it with you for free. Just ask.
In fact, tomorrow, volunteers are delivering a full array of equipment to a gentleman that is in need here in our community.
Do you need help? Can you help? Please stop in or contact us at Cross Ministries, 1610 N. Main, Osceola, IA 641-342-2421,
So, Cross Ministries is much more than a Thrift Store and with every purchase you make, every volunteer hour you give, you are helping someone around the world participate in his or her world around them just a little more and we THANK YOU!
