Yesterday, I had a great conversation with a lady from Corydon. she was asking what medical donations we take. I love what I do and was excited to pass on the information she needed. Rick even explained that on Wednesdays, our route truck picks up in Corydon.

This morning I was working on some research and came across a great synopsis of the beginnings of C.R.OS.S. Ministries and why we do what we do. So, I pass along that synopsis so you, too, can read our full history. Enjoy!
In the spring of 2001, Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa, was searching for a way to dispose of used medical equipment. The founders of C.R.O.S.S. Ministries saw value in the used equipment and wanted to see it be put to good use. A local church connected them with a missionary working in Romania, and the first container of medical equipment and supplies was distributed to the poor and underprivileged.
In the years following, the founders continued to collect medical equipment from around the Midwest. Relationships were developed with various ministries, and soon shipments of donated medical equipment were benefiting people in countries around the world.
In June 2008, C.R.O.S.S. Ministries opened a thrift store at 1610 N. Main St. The community donated household goods and clothing to generate revenue to expand the medical collection. Shortly after opening, our first outreach opportunity arose. A devastating fire occurred in which a family lost a loved one. Through the generosity of the community we were able to assist the family with household goods, furniture and clothing. At that time, we realized that our community purpose was bigger than just providing a low-cost alternative to traditional retail stores. Many customers have turned to C.R.O.S.S. Ministries Thrift Store for assistance. Other customers shop the store looking for collectibles and unique items. The generosity of the donor and the customers has been amazing, leading to our growth and success. We are humbled by the support of this and the surrounding communities.
