COMING TOGETHER FOR THE MATHES FAMILY 🩷💜

CROSS Ministries is honored to support the Mathes Benefit this Saturday with two unique auction baskets filled with vintage treasures, farmhouse décor, kitchen essentials, local products, homemade treats, books, gift cards, and more.

These baskets are a true reflection of what makes our community special. Many of the items have been thoughtfully sourced secondhand through CROSS Ministries or generously donated by community members, giving beautiful treasures a second life and creating one-of-a-kind collections full of charm and character.

We're especially grateful to Harvest Barn Marketplace for partnering with us and contributing Autumn Fun Passes, beef sticks, and homemade fudge. Their generosity helped create a basket full of local flavor, family fun, and community spirit.

We're also excited to feature homemade mason jar bread mixes from Zadie Hatfield in one of our baskets. We were happy to support her IVF fundraising journey while adding a delicious homemade touch to the auction.

These baskets were made possible through the generosity of local businesses, CROSS board members, volunteers, supporters, and community members who came together to help make a difference.

WOW! What an incredible day!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our 18th anniversary sale with us today. This was our busiest day of the year, and we are so grateful for the overwhelming support from our community.

Thank you to everyone who shopped, donated, enjoyed lunch, volunteered, helped prepare for the event, and encouraged our mission. Days like today remind us how blessed we are to serve such a generous and caring community.

Because of your support, CROSS Ministries can continue providing assistance and hope to those in need throughout our area.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making our 18th anniversary such a tremendous success. We couldn't do what we do without you!

If you have been out at CROSS this week, you may have noticed we are currently taking donations for the Mathes family. We are incredibly thankful for every person who has given, prayed, checked in, or simply shown compassion during this difficult time.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

In moments like these, the Church and the community are called to come together, love deeply, and care for those who are hurting. Their need is greater than ours at this moment, and we are honored to help support them however we can.

Please continue praying for the Mathes family and for everyone affected.

Lord, we ask You to surround this family with Your peace, comfort, and strength. Be near to the brokenhearted and carry them through the days ahead. Provide for every need, place loving people around them, and remind them they are not walking through this alone. Help our community continue to reflect Your compassion, generosity, and love in both word and action. Amen.

What does it really mean to choose compassion over fear in ministry?

At C.R.O.S.S. Ministries, we believe stewardship matters but compassion must stay at the center. Our founder, Mike Sitzman, often said, “Err on the side of compassion,” and that principle continues to guide how we serve today.

We’ve shared a new blog, written by Mike's youngest daughter, reflecting on that balance and why we believe generosity should never be driven by fear.

In Christian nonprofit work, one of the most common tensions faced is the balance between stewardship and compassion.

Today we thank God for the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who pour love, strength, wisdom, and faith into the lives around them every day. Your kindness, sacrifices, prayers, and giving hearts make a lasting difference in families and throughout our community.

We pray today is filled with peace, joy, and reminders of how deeply loved and appreciated you are.

Getting it Done

What a wonderful story to share with you about you

The pictures tell just a small part of the story of C.R.O.S.S. The medical equipment and supplies you see in the pictures have been donated and collected over the past several weeks and positioned at our facility, for redistribution and donation to others, where they will fill critical needs around the world. Some will end up locally for those who need them here in our backyard.

Who are these OTHERS? There are many. Recently good usable equipment and supplies, but no longer needed at hospitals for various reasons have been donated. Local hospitals serving rural communities in Iowa, in Washington county, and at Mt Pleasant. A local county hospital in far northwest Iowa at Orange City, Iowa. A facility in Johnston, Iowa that serves the needs of disadvantaged children. Local residents who may no longer need a medical device or supplies.

This week used wheel chairs were delivered to a faith based organization at their Oranage City facility. This particular facility builds the cushions which go on the finished wheel chairs and then ships them to a different assembly point. We were able to drop the used chairs there for further shipment to their facility which repairs and refurbishes chairs for shipment aroud the world. People helping people.

After the wheel chair drop off, the truck was filled to the brim at the local hospital with equipment and supplies for the trip back to Osceola. At Osceola items will be divided up and donated to our good friends at CURE in Ft Smith, Ark and to a great group in Columbia, Mo – Mobility World wide. Of course if there is a need in our community or surrounding communities and we have it, that need will be filled.

Another piece of the puzzle is you. The donations you drop off, the purchases you make in the store. The donations we pick up at numerous thrift stores in south central Iowa. A 500 mile round trip in a truck on a very windy Iowa day and higher fuel prices eats up some cash. Paying operating expenses like heat, insurance, repairs and on and on. The donations which make the store a viable opportunity help greatly covering these expenses while at the same time offering valuable, household, clothes, decorating items, furniture, and more at very affordable prices. It makes the medical side of the effort possible at C.R.O.S.S.

So back to the beginning OTHERS- YOU- make this happen. It trully is amazing the number of people whose lives are touched sometimes a little and sometimes a lot by C.R.O.S.S. People working quietly together to make a big difference.
