Today, we recognize Paramedic Becky Hynd and EMS Chief Ben Bush for their role in saving a life of a sudden cardiac arrest patient in May. Approximately 350,000 cardiac arrests occur each year with a 90% fatality rate and we are grateful to be able to provide someone another day with their family and friends. CPR saves lives!

We are proud to announce we have secured an Assistance to Firefighters Grant by FEMA. We are using these funds to purchase and install a gear washer and dryer. Our turnout gear is exposed to cancer causing agents each time we respond to a fire and stays saturated with these particles long after the call is over. While we take proactive measures after each call to remove these particles, the gear washer will ensure these particles are properly removed and will also increase the longevity of our turnout gear. Special thank you to Chief Sharpless and Decoplan Associates for spearheading this project.

Today, we joined the Columbia Volunteer Fire Company and the Pennsylvania State Police with participating in the monthly training for staff at Fullington Bus Station in Philipsburg. Crews had the chance to simulate a bus crash and explain step by step exactly what each department does in those types of events. We also discussed and learned the proper procedures for evaluating and releasing the children and drivers. This training topic stemmed from the bus accident that occurred on the first day of school in Osceola Mills.
