A little update on this boy!
Sandy took him to the vet and he did have a microchip. An alert was sent out by the chip company and the response was rather appalling. It went something like this “take our name off his chip, we don’t want him back”. 😢😡 Did not care at all nor did they say he had been re-homed at some point - cared only about removing their name from his chip so they can walk away. Poor guy was about 80 miles from this “home”. Based on this, we believe he was dumped but we will still do a 5 day hold in the chance he had a new owner and is being looked for. I doubt it, but….
Now some good news! His name is Baxter and we lovingly call him Baxter Boone (Boon is after the gentleman that initially contacted us). He is a chocolate lab/German Shorthair mix and was born 4/27/2020.
This boy was a house dog - he wants to be inside with you. He appears completely potty trained as we have had no accidents. He does pull on a leash and he needs to be leashed so he does not wander off.
We have lots of interest in him and will keep everyone posted on how this plays out!! His current foster will be setting up meet and greets and reviewing applications. Please be patient as we are all volunteers. What matters most is he is SAFE!
If you are interested in a house buddy that wants to be your best friend - please fill out an application at this link. Baxter is nervous when first meeting men but once he knows you are safe, he gets over that fear quickly - but it is worth mentioning. He has not been a barker for us, he does not seem interested in cats, we are unsure how is with other dogs but so far has not seemed reactive to them.
BSCAR will get him heartworm tested and vaccinated. He is neutered.
He will make someone a great friend and deserves to have a best buddy!! We are not looking for an outside home for him.
